Angry Was today "ride like an idiot" day?

Was today "international ride like an idiot" day or something?

I had a series of meetings today across northern Switzerland. I decided to take my car instead of the bike for 2 reasons - 1) the ride was over 200 miles, mostly motorways. Extremely boring stuff, and 2) my rear tire is down to the warning bars, meaning it's no longer street legal. I'm getting a new Metzeler Roadtec Z6 mounted tomorrow.

On my way from Basel to St. Gallen, Switzerland, I passed through the Gubrist tunnel north of Zurich. This tunnel is about 5 miles long, and 2 lanes wide. In the middle of the tunnel, a bike comes roaring up (I was driving the speed limit of 100kmh/62mph), passing on the right (illegal) and splitting lanes between cars and 28-ton trucks (illegal and stupid).

Later, on the way back home, I had 2 bikers on sports bikes tailgating cars at 120kmh/75mph. And by tailgating, I mean less than 1 car length behind a car. Hey! Remember that "2 to 4 seconds" stuff they were talking about in driver's ed?

And finally, I had an idiot on an enduro wearing absolutely no protection (except a helmet, which is required by law), also following too closely and braking IN the turns. Not before them, but braking while leaned over. WTF? And this wasn't a one-time thing - I watched this idiot hit the brakes in three consecutive turns.

Sometimes I'm ashamed to mention that I ride...

On the funny side, one of the meetings was with a guy I met through another forum - he is looking for a webmaster to make some updates to his site, so I volunteered to help him. He suggested that we meet in a bar/restaurant in his area ... it turned out to be a Hell's Angels hangout. Yea, I felt real comfortable sitting in there in my business shirt...
