I was in the US Navy from '86 to '90 and saw no real battle. The service men and women that served (are serving) during conflict are the true heroes!

Thank you! For me it was a great opportunity and experience. I received college money for working on the most advanced fighter of its time, the F/A-18, and traveling and seeing the world. While I was in I visited Morocco, Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, St. Thomas, Chile, Acapulco Mexico, and all over the States.

Thanks for the kind words, Danr! I maintain constant vigil (read, on duty) the entire weekend, including Memorial Day. However, I will be on leave to spend some time with my family starting Tuesday the 30th.

It's great to hear there is all this support for those who served and are serving.
Since it is Memorial Day weekend, remember, the True Hero's are the one that never made it home. Take the time to thank a vet and show your support by lowering your flags to have mast to show your support.

Thanks all and have a great weekend.

US Army '93-'03 N.C. National Guard '03-present. 2 tours in Bosnia 2 in Kosovo 1 in Romania 1 in Germany. Haven't had the opportunity to serve in the sand box yet, but will get the chance soon I'm sure. I agree with everyone let's remember our brothers and sisters abroad and the ones who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Thanks!!! I never saw any action, but I did my duty from 68, to 72. A little place called Vietnam was pretty hot than. The real hero in my family is my dad, he did 20 years in the USN, and, is one of only a very few living serviceman that saw action in WW2, Korea, and Vietnam, and was decorated many times. My hat is off to all who serve!!!

I never got to serve due to a motorcycle wreck breaking some of my bones.

I usually do what I like to call a Memorial Ride on Memorial Day for all of those who served & those who are serving and for our fallen motorcycle family members, I strap a motorcycle helmet to the passenger seat with a gargo net, facing backwards.

U.S. Army '90-'98. I helped babysit the sandbox (Kuwait) until we could take care of business later.

The battlefied cemetaries in Europe, War Memorials in D.C. along with the Korean War Museum in Seoul are the sobering reality of what the ultimate sacrifice means.
