Had a buddy riding the Dragons Tail this past weekend commit a huge no no. Just thought I'd throw it out there as a reminder to all. This guys been riding for years and should have known better. Anyway, he was number 6 in a pack of 7 bikes slaying the dragon. They were averaging about 20 MPH and thought that was a safe comfortable speed. Number 5 went into a left hand turn and slowed instead of easing into the trottle thru the turn. My buddy, number 6, had to get on his brakes to keep from hitting the guy and locked up his rear brake. The rear started sliding out and he let go of the brake. We all know what happens next. High side. He went over the bike, and hit the guard rail and broke 7 ribs. The #7 guy said it all happened in a flash. Lesson learned, if your that far gone in a turn stay on the brake until either the bike stops, or you lay it down. Laying a bike down usually results in a few scrapes and strawberries, where as a high side is more violent. If you let the brake go that rear wheel WILL try to align itself with the front and never ends in your favor.
