| Hello everyone, Just bought a 1997 Suzuki 600 CXRR, my first bike i figured, go cheap becuase im going to destroy it anyway. Its a Carburated model and i can tell its carburated for a 87 octane gasoline becuase it idles different when i put 93 in it. I have a friend has a 2003 Suzuki 750 CXR, since its newer, it has a label right on the gas tank " USE ONLY 93 OCTANE GASOLINE " ... I Was wondering whether mine is recommended to use the higher octane rateing and whehter i should take it back to the shop to get the carburater set for the higher octane... Is there any disadvantage to putting higher octane in a lower octane engine or vice versa? I hear all this about higher compression ratios, higher octane is better for the higher compression to prevent knocking, and i also hear that higher octane dillutes oil on piston walls quicker. Any advice / recommendations are appreciated... Thank you |

| Carburetors have nothing to do with octane, only fuel:air ratio. Your bike might call for high octane fuel, but only because it might have a high compression ratio, which is why the '03 needs it. I'd run 87 unless you get knocking. You'll likely get more power and better economy. Welcome to the forum. What's a CXR?
