I've read about them. One thing I haven't heard is how much drag they create when spinning up. Obviously it's equivelent to the same rotational inertia added to the wheel, but with additional friction from the gearing. Is it worth the compromise?

Beats me. I haven't read the second site where there seems to be information.

There are a couple really smart men over at MC-USA. It's always interesting to read their engineering replies.

It sounds like something that is only really useful on a track (or on a poser bike). Not something I'll be wanting or needing anytime soon...
