Default Rx Eye Protection

All,

To follow-up on a thread about general eye protection does anyone have experience with prescription sun glasses/eyewear. I am in the market for a pair of prescription sun glasses that I can use both on and off the bike.

I don't have any firsthand experience, but www.safetyglassesusa.com does link through to this site http://www.rxsafetywear.com/ that looks like it has some very nice Rx eyewear options for riding.

I have regular rx glasses with clip-on sunglasses.

I think you can have prescription Oakley's or something.

I wear Bolle Vigilantes. They are full wrap arounds, with interchangeable lenses. But the coolest thing about them is that they have a clip in insert, which clips in inside the frame, which carries my prescription lenses. Mine are in bifocal, so that I have a clear view of both the road and the instrument panel. The prescription adapter is about 30.00 and you pay your optometrist for the prescription lenses.

The great thing is they fit easily under the shield of my Arai Astral-X.

Highly recommended.

I know it sounds dumb, but I would like a Rx face shield with transition abilities. I hate wearing my glasses under the helmet. Such a pain.

In most cases, it would be impossible to produce a visor with any kind of useful correction. With my prescription, it's not even possible to produce wrap-arounds. The lens must be relatively flat in order to provide the correction I need.

My clear glasses (that I used in the office, etc.) are made of glass. I don't like to wear them on my bike because of the danger of glass near the eyes in an accident. My sunglasses are made of hardened plastic - they won't shatter in an accident.

Ya i know it isn't really possible, or at least not it most cases, but wouldn't it be nice. Now lets talk about the transition thing. It would be great to have a tented visor and clear all in one. I know I am being ridiculous, but hey, that is what dreams are for.

Bajaraider, Nolan makes a helmet that has two sheilds, one clear and one tinted that flips up out of the way at night so you can see better. (open face or full face helmet)

I got my N-42 last week and I love it! It's more quiet than my Vega Summit XPV, and I really like the chin strap latching mechanism, easy to latch and unlatch with gloves on!

that is great! No if only we could figure out the Rx thing. Thanks for the info. I had seen a helmet before, but It had a shaded visor inside the helmet so no glasses. I did not realize there was one with the shade on the outside.

For anyone who has this helmet:
How is this helmet on drag with the shade up? and how is it on cooling and airflow?

I used it a few times so far in the evening with the sun shield up. Makes for a real good bug catcher, with not too much drag at 50mph. As far as cooling, there is an inflow vent on top with inner ducts to ensure even cooling. This will be my main helmet in warm to hot weather.

I have a pair of RecSpecs. They are padded(not removable), prescription, and transititions. Their nice because you can use them in any light conditions.
