Default Eye Protection

When I ride, I always wear sunglasses or clear lensed glasses, even behind my face shield. Here's a great source for excellent riding eyewear for $4 - $6 each. It's nice to know your glasses are cheap, good looking, and ANSI impact resistant too.

www.safetyglassesusa.com

I got some AO Flywear Blue Mirrored sunglasses, Allsafe Seneca clear lens glasses, and 2 pairs each ot Elvex TNT Clear and Flash mirrored. Shipped, these 6 pairs were under $30 - and they're very nice too. Fast shipping is nice also...

Arai visors are polycarbonate (Lexan), so I consider that safe enough.

Do you ever open the visor? In my case, with my Vega 3/4 and my Nolan N41 Classic Plus, I usually open the visor at lower speeds on nice days - but I still don't want crap to hit me in the eyes. I'll agree that helmet faceshields are plenty of protection and if you vever ride with them open, no big deal.

I've got my Shoei pinlock visor (2 layers of plastic), and wear my prescription sunglasses behind those. The sunglasses have hardened plastic lenses with a UV filter, etc.

I just ordered from them last week and got three pairs of sunglasses. I should have bought a few clears. The order came fast; I ordered on a Friday and got it on Tuesday.

That's very good. Some of us are cursed with 20/20 vision (still, somehow, at age 42) and don't have any Rx glasses though.

I guess I should have posted this in the Cruiser section. $4.13 for the Elvex TNT glasses ($3.90 for clear) which are ANSI Z87.1-2003 certified and 99.9% UV protection seems pretty good to me.

Hey, at least I'm better off than my dad - without his glasses, he has 20/400 vision ... legally blind. My prescription is not all that dramatic, but it does correct for several minor things that add up to some pretty fuzzy sight without correction.

I guess I get my sight from my dad, eagle eyed old buzzard...

These glasses from www.safetyglasses.com are very nice - I know that thet cost quite a bit more down at the home depot place...

I dunno ... it would cost me about $1000 to get to the next Home Depot

Home depot up here in Canada have some really cool safety sunglasses, they wrap around , give good protection and even look cool. About $12 Cnd. Everything is more here than in the states.

Oakley M Frames - I switch the lens to a clear set at night. Those are the clearest glasses I have ever owned.

www.safetyglassesusa.com looks like they do international orders too. No, I don't own stock in the company - I'm just a favorably impressed customer.

One thing about a less than full coverage helmet or opening the visor while riding is that the breeze can cause you to develop a nasty case of dry eye. After the ride you feel as if there's a stick or grains of sand in your eye that hurt like hell. The only thing that's worked so far for me is Systane. It costs more but it works miracles. Imitation tears help a bit, with a cold compress but the Systane just works much better. Stay away from the 'get the red out' drops if you develop dry eye, they only make it worse.

I have tinted visor in addition to the clear one on both my helmets. I think sunglasses and a helmet on a sports bike is stupid. Or to ride with open visor.

Well, since I have to wear glasses either way, it doesn't really make much difference if I have a clear visor with sunglasses behind it, or a tinted visor with clear glasses behind it. Since I have several visors (tinted and clear) for my helmet, I have all options open.

I've never had that problem, even on 200 mile rides without a faceshield (but with a big windshield on my cruiser) although I do know one guy with a severe tear duct problem of some sort who has to wear some tightly fitted goggles.

I think it's a lot easier to carry a spare set of glasses to change than it is to drag along an extra visor and change that out when the light conditions change - but I don't do the sport bike thing anymore so I'm not up on the fashion does and don'ts.

I plan to open a site just for bikers. I will be selling eyewear. Not sure of pricing as of yet. But I do plan to sell the type of glasses we need for riding. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress.
