Eight months of experience, and now you want a Gixxer ... hmmmm.

How were the tires on your GS550E? How wide were the chicken strips? Were the angstnipples on your pegs worn away? If not, you didn't ride that bike to it's full potential. Why then do you want to upgrade to a racing bike?

Hey, Socco!

Like your motto. Just make sure you're at low rpms when you downshift otherwise you're gonna slide & skip about .

That's a lotta bike for a new rider, bud. I'd estimate about 2-1/2 times the power of your GS. As far as which one... you might as well choose for color because there's no way you'd be able to tell the difference. It takes real skill and a race track to know that.

We still don't know how much experience you have. It's not measured in months.

Sorry, but there's no way that bike made 67 hp unless it had a turbo on it. 35-45, I'd guess. This page shows the previous year at 50 hp, and that was probably crankshaft power. At the wheel, about 45.

The S model has the same engine with lower level suspension and brakes, IIRC.

3000 miles in 8 months??? That averages to 375 miles a month. Are you sure you have the experience to handle more power? As for your question, if you only ride 375 miles a month, an average of 12.5 miles a day, who cares about power, go for bling! You need a bike that looks cool!

You know....I hate assuming things about people. So let me ask...how much experience do you have? How often/far do you ride? Why do you want this model bike? and last but not least, What kinda beer you like?

I'm not gonna say he's not ready for it, because he put on as many miles on that thing as I did on my 250 before I bought the Gixxer. But I will still say BE VERY CAREFUL!!

As far as which bike to get, sit on both, see what you like better, they're gonna handle the same. To me, the R6 seemed to sit you a little more upright than the Gixxer.

I found it strange that my position is no different on a Yama R1. Weird to me being its a bigger bike and all.

Well dude its up to you. No one on this site can tell you whether or not you’re ready to move up without seeing your riding abilities. If you’re confident your skills are ready to be pushed to next level then do it. I’m not one to try to crush your confidence but look hard at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if you’re ready, if the answers still yes go for it.
