Default v-twin oil

is v-twin oil(20-50) REALLY any different from any other oil, or more specifically the SUZUKI oil i used to put in my bike? or is drag specialties just trying to make even more money off the harley noobs?

i do have a single cylinder. but i've been using the standard suzuki oil from the suzuki shop. but they relocated and i didn't want to spend my lunch time trying to find them. so i bought some drag specialties 20-50 v-twin from rick fairless' place.

yes i was undoubtably ripped off, but i saved it on gas money since it's just up the road from me.

You don't see inline oil in such a heavy weight. It may also have different component quantities (zinc, etc).

Just dump it in and ride it. It will work.

Like the man says. There's nothing wrong with it, but it may be a bit heavier than your really need. You'll not likely feel the .3 hp drop in the seat of the pants.

I think it's just a little more durable for the air cooled V-twin motor. Mobil 1 also makes a V-twin specific motorcycle oil, sold at Wal Mart locally.

==> Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50

It doesn't cost any more then regular brand name motorcycle oil, $7.99 qt, so it's not like your getting bent over a table to get it. Will it do more then other oils......who knows. For me I'm using Rotella T full synth in the SV, works as smooth as butta on hot toast.

Well Suzuki sells the 10W-40 for the bikes and they are selling it at a whopping $4.00 a quart. Is the different weight going to affect the clutches?? What about going with the synthetic?

Actually, with her being south of Ft. Worth the 20w-50 will keep the bike cooler in the 4+ months of 100F+

Heavier oil makes more friction, which causes more heat. The only reason to use heavier oil is so that it continues to protect at higher temps.

I'll laugh about $8 a quart oil, but I just bought some oil filters for $12 each. At least they're chrome K&N filters instead of those stupid plastic Frams...

When I ran 20w-50 in the summers on my 500r, the bike ran cooler.

i see we have a disagreement here. some research might be in order. my bike is a single cylinder 650, air cooled of course, so it does get pretty hot. i don't want to be prevented FROM riding on hot days. so is the difference enough to really MAKE a difference?
it's not like it would be a horrid loss if the bike died, BUT i can't afford to replace it just yet so i'd like to avoid that possibility.

My manual lists 20w-50 for higher temperatures, I bet your manual has similar advice.

all i have is the clymer manual which is notorious for its inaccuracies.

In the Texas summer, the 20W50 will be better to run.
