Default My first REAL ride

Today, I took my C-50 on its first REAL ride. We were up early this morning (our four month old puppy is not good about letting us sleep in), and after breakfast, we saddled up. I took my C-50 in to have the ignition wire recall taken care of, and then off we went, to the site of the house we're building. When it was all said and done, I'd ridden 36 miles today, far more than I've ever ridden before in any single day. I got up to 60 mph for the first time, and it was all pretty comfortable.

That makes two firsts for me today. Several years ago, I appeared as an expert talking head in a documentary that finally aired on The History Channel this morning. It was my first appearance on national TV, and my first real ride of any distance/substance. That makes today a good day.

Congrats! 36 miles is my minimum distance covered in a day. A 17 mile each way to and from work will do that though (plus a couple for lunch).

Thanks, Chris. We took the Rider's Edge class last October, and there's a fair amount of riding involved in that, but there's nothing like just going out and riding. It felt good.

Hi Lancer. Glad you had a safe and enjoyable ride. If I'm not mistaken, it sounds as though you are fairly new to riding. Your post was written as though you were riding two up. Just wanted to caution you to take it slow and build some experience and skill before taking passengers. It can take some time to build these qualities riding solo, even moreso with a passenger.

Onto other things. Congrats on the national spot. I'm interested to hear about the topic you presented. I occasionally enjoy shows on the history channel. Ride safe there bud, and take care.

T.V. is always a good thing, and as for the ride its an enjoyable thing, I myself have already put 700 miles on my bike and I got it last friday lol. Whole reason I got a bike is to save the gas and millage. I drive WAY to far every day sun-sun to be shelling out my GTP's 15mpg. Anyways congrats and be safe.

Atlas,

Yes, I am a fairly new rider. My wife and I both took the MSF course last fall and we bought bikes. She has her own--and rode with me. We were not two up. I know better than to try riding two up at this point.

Dragbar--although I practice law for a living, I am a Civil War historian. My particular focus is cavalry operations. I was one of the talking heads on a program called The Unknown Civil War: General John Buford. It aired yesterday morning at 8:00 AM. I filmed that thing in 1999, and had no idea it was going to be aired (at last), and it came as quite a surprise to flip to the History Channel and then unexpectedly find myself on the TV.

Rockhead,

We have three golden retrievers, ages 10.5 years, 14 months, and 3 months. The baby is the one who's not at all good about letting us sleep in.

You have a little zoo going on. I have a Basset 3yo, Bulldog 4yo and a Boxer 7yo. Sorry to get away from the subject.

Hide your shoes.

Rockhead,

We've had three dogs for the better part of ten years. It's something we're used to. The problem is that the puppy is still only 13 weeks old, and she's still a baby.

Thanks, Robert. I appreciate it. I see you're from Lexington. I'm working on the research for a book on Lexington's own John Hunt Morgan and his 1863 raid through Indiana and Ohio.

Lancer...My mistake for assuming otherwise. Sounds like you both are on your way to a safe career in riding. Have a blast you two!
