I stopped getting tickets when I stopped being nervous getting pulled over.

The very first thing I do is pull my helmet off. Cops like to know who they are dealing with, and it tells them your not going to run.

Great tip Rickster! I didn't pull my helmet off right away, but I took off my gloves and and undid my jakcket. I took my helmet off when I got my insurance outta the tail.

One other thing that helps is turn off the vehicle and if you are in a cage, put the keys on the dash.

It also helps to let them know that you need to retrieve your license out of your backpack (if applicable).

Cop pulls me over...

"Do you know you were doing 90mph in a 30mph zone ?"

"No, really ?? wow... good thing I don't give two s****"

"Sir may I see your licence and registration?"

"I don't have a licence and I stole this bike from a bar about an hour ago."

"Sir, do you have any knives or other wepons on your person that I should know about?"

"No... well, I have the gun I used to shoot the owner of this bike right here in the saddle bag."

At this point the cop ( obviously a rookie ) draws his gun and tells me to place my hands in the air. Which I do. He backs off to his car and get's on his radio. 5 min. later I'm surrounded by 10 cop cars with all of the Police pointing their guns at me. A sergant, obviously the man in charge, walks up to me with great caution ;

Sir, do you have any guns on your person or on or in that motorcycle ?"

"Of coarse not officer... If you like please search me.."

After a pat down and a search of my bike the sargent says;

"Did you steal this motorcycle sir ?"

"Of coarse not officer", I reply as I hand him my registration.

"Sir, I understand you don't have a licence."

"Of coarse I do officer " I reply as I hand him my license from my wallet.

"Sir, Officer Skippy there say's thet you have a gun and that you used it to shoot a man and steal this motorcycle from the bar down the street."

" I bet he said I was speeding too, Sergant. "

Glad you're back home safely in the great city of Killeen! Be sure to contact me in the near future so we can meet up? Tomorrow is no good [check the profile to find out why!]

Good job with the cop. Most cops around this city [KPD, anyway] won't hassle bikers.. but the State Troopers? Man, no breaks at all! If it's in the transportation code, they're all over it. I see quite a few bikers in the Austin PD on bikes, and I fear them, because I know that they're the ones I can't outrun! They can hide very well, too...

Ride on wind!

Pulled over last night - with two other unknown riders who had pulled up behind me at a light.

Cops doing random checks... standard stuff but they couldn't get over the M109's looks. I got more questions about the bike...

Explained to them I was heading to see my son's ball hockey game... they had my particulars and were good about it - they were going to run a check and the one looked at the other and said, "nah, let him go"...

...I told them I had to "make up time now cuz the game started" (smiling while I said it) and they just nodded and smiled - good guys...

...the other two guys were being run through the ringer though - I don't think they liked their choppers, their vests, and some colours they were wearing.

With the warm weather and tonight being Friday night, I expected to see cops all over the place. I was not disappointed. I came up to a check stop that was set up in the middle of the road right after a curve. In my opinion, it was a dangerous area to be since even though the speed limit is 35 thru there, most cars come through at around 55.
When I stopped the officer asked to see my license and if I would mind removing my helmet. (Full face) I told him I would not mind, but not until after I moved off to the side of the road. This seemed to irritate him, but he allowed me to move my bike. It took him about 10 min before he finally came over to me, where he did a cursory glance at my license and sent me on my way.
In this case I really have no complaints, except the location of the check point. All it would have taken is one person coming around that curve who was not paying attention, and there would have been an accident.

It's funny, cops like to set up check points after curves or in blind areas... but on highways or state roads, they do the modern 45* park and exit from the passenger side. If it was me, I'd worry about the drunk coming around the back road corner that would kill me. Damn, I'd want a Mail truck ( with a 383 stroker, 202 heads, duel 650 H.......).
