Depends how you define "safer". Snow skiing hardly kills anyone, but I've seen my share of sprains and broken legs (not myself - I'm an expert). Mountain and rock climbing are usually done with such caution that there's little risk of injury other than scrapes and bruises. Very vew deaths. I grew up in Montana, and I almost never heard of one.

I'd say that other, less regulated motorized sports such as snowmobiling and ATVs top the list. After that, I just don't know. You should probably come up with a different argument to convince your wife to let you keep riding.

Playing chess can be dangerous

Of course, motorcycles have inherent risks, but if you do it with safety in mind you can reduce risks. Air planes are the safest mean of transportation but people die in crashes.

Crossing the road canbe very dangerous, but if you are careful and take the necessary steps (look both ways just like your Mommy told you) you can reduce those risks right?

Riding a motorcycle is very dangerous. According to the latest study I can find, there are 13 TIMES as many fatalities per mile on a motorcycle than in a car. But other vehicles are more dangerous than a car also: 18 wheelers have twice the deaths per mile as cars, as do bicycles. SUV's are involved in only 3% of accidents, but account for 30% of the fatalities due to their tendancy to roll over.

You can make riding a lot safer. 90% of people involved in motorcycle accidents have no formal training. 50% don't have a motorcycle license. Almost half of all motorcycle fatalities involve alcohol. Get trained, pass the skills test to get a license, and stay sober, and the accident rate drops considerably. And compared to smoking, riding is quite safe.

I mean as in injeries period not just fatalities, no alcohol, not trying tricks just strieght forward riding
I dont have a problem with wife letting me ride, it was her suggestion as a means of saving on gas, we run our son to college 3 days a week, 16 miles one way. Take him there in the morning and go get him late afternoon. I figure it cost about $140 a month in our Van vers $40 a month on a bike.

Motorcycling is safer than sticking your head in an alligator's mouth and sleeping with scorpions.

Prescription drugs are pretty risky too. Lots of narcs abused out there, jut the same as a motorcycle being "abused".

Ladders seem to assist quite a few falls and broken necks per year.

Other than stabbings and shootings in the city, motorcycle accidents are def up there in numbers for critical patients. Sure, we have alot of car crashes, but that number is expected to be a little higher due to the number of cars on the road.

drinking water and eating food are extremely dangerous, you are placing air blockages RIGHT next to your airways! are you people insane! oh, and breathing by the way, WICKED dangerous, what if you inhale some toxi chemicals or asbestos.... I'm telling you, the only way to be safe in life, is, well, to die, then you cant be hurt or die, cause you already have that part taken care of. And on a side note, I got a splinter from the stick in a corndog on wednesday, so those can be dangerous too, I was thinking of sueing the corndog company for the momentary annoyance between said splinter introduction to my finger and the time to pull it out with my other hand.....

The things I see that raise life insurance rates (or make policies harder to get) are skydiving and scuba diving.
