Not sure I get why he got some negative comments. The guy gets pulled over when he did nothing wrong, is polite to the officer and shows respect and just wants to rant a little and everyone jumps him for it. I see nothing wrong with his original post or any reason he should have to explain himself.

Well I was just baggage to my parents, had no choice in the matter.

But Texas chicks keep me staying here. My GF isn't too keen on the cold, but we might move out of the country or at least a long vacation eventually!

Oh, I see. You were refering more to the people that were claiming it was harassment. Just seemed silly to me to give the guy a hard time about a rant, that's all. Misunderstood you.

In response to your original post (forgetting for one second about the rediculous harassment complaints that followed), it is really not all that uncommon for a tag to come up with no information on file. This is usually a DMV error as they are not always the most thorough in entering correct information into your file. The reason you were pulled over is two fold, one (exactly as you found out) is to make you aware of this so that you may investigate with DMV and correct the issue, and two to be sure that the tags are legit. Altered, improper, or otherwise fake tags are common and are usually on STOLEN bikes. I guess no one here really cares about getting their bike back if it were stolen though.

As for the harassment complaints...let's be realistic people, these are guys, many of whom ride and whom do not really take a whole lot of interest in traffic enforcement, but understand it is a part of their job. Usually if you are polite, honest, and not guilty of driving like an idiot you will get just a warning as was the case here. And, if you truly feel that they spend their days ruining your life, feel free to call 912 when someone is stealing your beautiful new bike.

Now let the pig, donut, whatever comments continue.

I happen to have a couple good friends who are cops. One is a state trooper and the other is a city cop. They do random license plate checks when they're bored and if it comes that you're not in the system they have to pull you over to look into it. Could be a fake plate. My trooper friend was %%%%%ing with other troopers one day when I rode along with him about plates not showing up on the system. It's a glitch in the state computer system and they won't fix it or don't know how. The cops don't like dealing with it either but they have to look into it anyway. Hell, I had personalized plates for 3 years and when I went in to get regular plates, they didn't have my personalized ones in the system. They still had the old ones. They couldn't figure out how I got the plates. I sure as hell didn't hand stamp them. Asked her what would of happened had I been pulled over, she said I would've got a ticket for frogulant plates. Figure that one out. 3 years of bad plates.

I was once pulled over in my car for, get this, driving in a forward motion, with my reverse lights on (bad wiring job on a Hynudai). The deputy, who was obviously bored out of his skull, claimed that I could possibly create confusion in the mind of other drivers by doing this at night. I received a written warning for this. OY

As far as I know that IS illegal. At least in drivers ed they went over the specific colors you could display from your vehicle (front and back) and what was/wasn't illegal.

But at least he just gave you a warning.

You never know who's listening in this electronic day, and age. If he had told you that he was stopping you for 10 over, he is pretty has to write you a ticket. By telling you a made up story, he let's you know he's out there watching, but can still let you off. Besides, if you had run when his lights came on, than your a bad guy, and he's a hero.

Ya, sometimes I miss spell. OOOOOPS!! One thing that I do know, with my trooper friend They are always taping the conversation. From the dash camera and on a mike when they approach you. It is up to the officer to decide if you get a ticket or not. There is not a requirement to issue a ticket. He told me he caught a guy at 130 mph in a new trans am and let him go because he knew the guy probably was just opening it up to see what he had in and was not going to keep it up there all day. He told me that when he approached the car he was laughing at the guy and said "man, this thing really flies". They are human and no sense taking a guys license for doing something he would probably have done himself. Just don't be a ***** and your chances are far greater for getting out of it. Also, if you want to get out of it, try your best before he goes back to his car. Once he prints the ticket its to late. Its in the system then and he cant go back and erase it.

When I had my VW baja bug running, I would get pulled over for things I was doing wrong (speeding etc) and would get off with warnings for things wrong with the car, like tail lights. One morning while still in high school I got pulled over for "Excessive exhaust noise" !!! ten the cop searched my car because he thought he smelled cigarettes (I was not yet 18 ). Another time I got pulled over for supposedly running a stop sign. The cop was six blocks away and it was dark and he said he saw me roll through it. Needless to say he pulled me over. I agrued , excuse me, politly debated with him about it and got a warning for a broken license plate light. Sorry about the ramble... story time is over for me.

All has to do with the discretion (sp) of the cop. In michigan it goes by what type of cop and where he is from. Although that aside, other then state police, all other cops are not supposed to pull over bikers because to many people where running and getting killed. (I can easily do a buck40 {mph} in my car safely because the roads have many empty spaces at times, but imagine a smaller object going through our highways) Not that I ever advise any human beings to ever go that fast, I was just having a bad day and needed a good shot of adrenalin.

Ok I will redefine safely. It is illegal to walk on the highway for a reason. A deer would have been my own problem. The skys are clear, I can see the roads for miles, if the roads are empty the only death is my own. Well that and potentially a deer.

I have a way of defining safety too, it goes like this. I think to myself, would I be doing this if I had my Mother, Son, Daughter, Preacher, or a cop riding with me. If the answer is "NO", than it's probably not safe.

It's not my place to be telling you how to drive your car, or ride your bike, but if, and when you, or anyone makes a statement that I feel is wrong, I'll point it out. I don't expect my opinion to change your life, but as a young man, perhaps recently, or soon to be on his own, your probably feeling a sense of freedom that you didn't have when you were younger, and more closely watched by your parents. As you get older, you will realize that the freedom you so coveted as a teenager, is a two edged sword, and you actually had more freedom when you were living at home with your parents, than you will ever have for the rest of your life.

Sorry about the lecture, just trying to let you know that it is possible to have fun, and be safe too. TIME & PLACE, TIME & PLACE, TIME & PLACE. There's a time & place for everything.
