Unhappy My friend went down yesterday.. =(

UGHH.. First off, he's OK for the most part. Just a little banged up.

We both work at the same office and since it was his bday a few days ago, I decided we should go out to the local sushi restaurant for a nice bday lunch w/ him and a few other co-workers.
Naturally, we both ride to work.

While we were there, I get a page (IT support) and need to head back to the office so I leave early...
I get back not 15 minutes later, and another coworker of mine comes up to me and says, "Hey, you know your friend Armando..?"

A sick feeling rose in my stomach. I was hoping he wasn't going to say what he was going to say.....

On a merging road/yield back into our corporate complex, the car in front of him had stopped, guess my friend had turned his head to see if cars were coming right at that exact moment and rear-ended the car, who happened to also be one of the guys who came out to eat w/ us. It was a convertible. Friend was launched off his bike and landed between the front and back seats...

They carted him off to the hospital, did some xrays and said nothing (thankfully) was broken. Just some sprains and bruising.

Man, what a sobering moment that was. He's a very good friend of mine. Was a groomsman in his wedding and all... UGH. Not a good feeling at all... And I think if things may have been different if I hadn't left early or if I didn't "plan" to go out to eat for him at all...

He is resting comfortably at home now. So I'm grateful.

Just ride carefully out there guys.... On all the boards I frequent, I always HATE it when I see that oh so familiar topic of someone going down....
Friend spoke to the EMT person on the ride in the ambulance tho and asked if he was the first motorcycle accident of the season (weather just started warming up last week) and he said "hell no! But you are the first one to be wearing more gear than just a helmet...."
WOW...

Ride safe guys....

Well, at least it sounds like, in a little while, he will be riding again. Thankfully, he was wearing gear!

Thanks fellas. I spoke to him earlier today and he seems in good spirits. A little sore, but none the worse for wear.
We even chuckled about it a little. The most difficult part of this ordeal now is convincing his wife to let him get back on the saddle.. heh.

And I just realized today's date. No, this is no Aprils Fools joke, unfortunately.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

One thing about being on a forum like this, is the added number of riders that you have communications with.
Out side of this board, I have close contact with about 15 other riders, so if there are 1500 (just a guess) members here, it increases my odds by 100 to 1 that I'm going to hear about something bad happening.

I'm glad your friend didn't get hurt to bad, sounds like he was still moving at a pretty good clip when he hit the car. Landing on, or in a car can save you from a lot of road-rash. Been there, done that! How bad is the bike?

You know, I gave that a thought as well. The scary thing is, any one of us may go down and others on these boards we frequent may also know nothing about it...
Its funny how even on an internet board, we get to know each other and become "connected." I don't know what I'm gettin' at.. Just don't wanna hear about anyone going down anymore. It sucks...
GROUP HUG TIME!!!!

He hasn't seen the bike yet. Not able to drive, so its still sittin at the place they towed it to. He may try to take a look at it this week.. I'll keep ya'll posted.

Sorry to hear about the mishap Lex, I hope your friend heals up quickly. There are so many things to keep aware of when riding in traffic....

Hope all is well soon,

Best wishes for your buddy Lex. I read some where (maybe here) "I know I am going to go down eventaly just hope that by wearing gear and riding safley that I can stack the odds in my favor." That stuck with me.

Best of luck for your buddy Lex. Tell him that the next time he wants to jump into the back seat of a hottie's convertible, there's better ways of doing it.

(I was a guy, I know. The joke doesn't work with a guy driving though! )

Unhappy

Been away a few days. Sorry as well Lex to hear about the crash. It's hard enough to hear about a fellow rider going down, moreso a close friend.
Be a support for him and keep your chins and heads up, and get him back on the bike ASAP.

Glad to hear your friend is healing well. You know, I guess it could happen to anybody. Why, I once heard that Prince Charles of England went down, while on vacation in Scotland. He was quoted as remarking that (it) had left a bad taste in his mouth........
