Ran the Dragon yesterday

Took the day off work yesterday, and rode up to NC to run the dragon yesterday. I took my old shovelhead (never took it on the dragon before), my girlfriend Sharon took her Intruder 1400, two friends (Gary and Mike) took Intruder 800s, another (Micheal)took his Intruder 1500LC, and the last guy (Willow) rode his Vulcan 2000. Needless to say, I was NOT the fastest this time That old Harley drags the floorboards pretty easily...I guess I'll take the 800 up from now on.

We pretty much had the road to ourselves. The food at the dinner they built at Deal Gap last fall, by the way is very good. Sat and chatted a bit with the staff, including the general manager, who we became friends with last September when he drove Sharon the hour+ to the hospital so we wouldn't have to wait for the ambulance when she wrecked. Great guy!

All went well this time, with no wrecks. Sharon went real slow the first run, but shook off the nervousness for the second run and beat a couple of the guys. The 2000cc Vulcan was a BEAST in the mountains, sport-bike kind of quick plus decent handling for a cruiser, a lot more agile than you would expect from a bike that big. Gary ripped a great time on his 800, earning bragging rights for the day. My antique managed to beat the 1500LC, my GF, and one new guy on an 800, but it certainly didn;t set any racords!

It was a tad cold, with some snow still visable up on the tops of the mountains on the north sides, and temps in the mid 50s. It bothered the rest of the crew more than it bothered me and my girlfriend, as we both have Gerbing electric gear to stay toasty warm. it was a great ride, with good people. We also got to ride US129 over Blood Mountain, GA 180, and Black Mountain, some of the best roads in north GA. Finished it off with some really good Mexican food in Dawsonville. Did about 400 miles total.

Sure beats workin!!!!!!!!!
