WOW to this thread!! Why can't we all just get along or RIDE.
As for the gear, I would rather sweat than bleed and can't wait till June!
I've taken the ERC twice and will go again. I learn something new every time.
I guess I've been a poser for about 40 years now because I'm still don't ride as good as I would like to.
Just had to put my $.02 on this one.

In that case, I say we should dedicate our next ride to our Harley brethren who couldn't ride yet because there's snow on the ground, it's raining outside, it's not at least 70°F yet, his bike hasn't been washed or cleaned yet, he is still awaiting his order of "Live to Ride" crap and the lastest Village People fashion to arrive at his front door, his bike is still down for repairs, etc., etc., etc.

Oh no, no hostility here. I really do care.

Back to the basics of this thread. The rolex rider is one who has the money (to buy a Harley) and does so for the sake of owning one. Naturally, this person could careless if he gets to ride it, except that in the off chance his buddies do want to go out, he must put on his dealership purchased duds. This class of rider generally sells a practically mint piece of equipment about 6 years later when the next toy of choice comes along. This in turn will reduce the "investment" value of any Harley out there as over time more and more of these unridden rides will flood the market. Just thank this class of rider for providing relatively new equipment at sub-market prices.

you know, it may be a local thing, where all the riders come out in the spring and are excited to see each other, but I have yet to see more than one guy intentionally not wave to me yet. and many of the bikes look like harleys, heck, that one old guy with the full out ZZtop beard, giant belly and demin jacket on an old giant roadking waved and then even nodded to me in my full commuter gear on a bike half size I should have, backpack on my back, just all kinds of funny n00b written all over me and he nodded and waved and did the old rider to new rider greeting or such. The one guy I think intentionally didnt wave, well he could be new to his bike like I am too, so obviously I cant call it, but he DID have a black jacket with a fat orange/rust horizontal stripe and a spike top beanie helmet...... I neglected to note whether his pipes sang the HD mating call though. but every time I am sure I see myself a harley (its hard to miss a road king with the giant front, or if it calls out its hawg call quite loudly) I also see a rider who waves back. maybe thats just how it is in the spring in VT..... maybe I'll even see a harley with a rainbow sticker, driven by a man that is.....

Same wind no matter what bike. About the waving I was riding along yesterday and waved to a guy on his bike it was funny because he took his hand off the grip half waved and put hand back real quic to steady the bike like he had never taken a hand off the grip before I'll bet he was a new rider made me laugh.

I live in NH and have seen the population of poser types increase across the boards. I think alot of the problem ( if you want to call it a problem ) is due to the great job the marketing people for all the manufacturing companies have done.

Back in the late 70's to mid 80's when I transitioned from dirt bikes to road bikes there was still a bad stigma associated with motorcycle riders. It wasn't uncommon for you or a buddy to get cut off or run off the road by some guy who had a " thing " against anyone on a bike. Today it's almost an "American Family Values Item" (every good middle to upper class family should have at least one bike in the garrage - preferably a Harley ).

I must admit I'm not a Harley fan. When I started riding, Harley was still owned by AMF. Even a Harley fanatic would like to forget those years. With that said, I just can't stand the " YUPPIFICATION " of the biker scene. I live about an hour from Laconia, NH and I've seen the changes to Bike Week. At one time it was a matter of pride for Harley riders to ride in, some 2-3,000 miles on ridgid frame hogs. I'd say that now 60 - 70% of them come in on trailers ( some on Harley licenced trailers & trucks ). Hell, most of these new Yuppie Harley riders ( owners ) have spent more money on chrome dudads, clothing and toys than I've paid for all my bikes combined.

My brother in law is one of these new breed Harley Yuppies. Afew years ago he had to sell his fully decked out Harley yuppie machine and I felt bad for him. I figured he was dying to ride because he had placed himself on a waiting list for a fully decked out " Fat Boy Road Toad " and was drooling over all the glossy brochures from Seacoast Harley. So with love in my heart and butterflies in my tummy ( I wasn't confident in his abilities ) I offered to let him use my old CB 900 F . He, with a pensive look on his face, thought about it for a couple minutes, turned to me with a sad look and said "No...thanks...I'd love to but, I can't be seen on a Honda". He's had to pass a couple of times on getting his new Harley due to lack of funds. I can see that considering your looking at around $30,000.00. God, that's more than half of what is owed on my house mortgage !! So, to the best of my knowlege he hasn't ridden for over five years - perish the thought.

It's almost as bad for the import bike market. Now that it's respectable to own a bike, getting financing is easy and painless. I've seen to many kids walk inti a dealership and a couple hours later their comming out with a brand new CBR with matching leather race suit, helmet and gloves. These are the ones that when I see them coming at a light, I'll sit through a green just to make sure they've gone past. These are the same ones you will see a couple days later wearing shorts, tank top, flip flops and no helmet with their girlfriend on the back. Fortunately, for us in the used market these people are great. If they don't wreck the bike doing wheelies, you can pick up a low mileage bike pretty cheap.

All Things considered, I'll take the Poser's. If I have to wade thru a bunch of Yuppies or rich kids strutting around their brandie new "mines better than yours" with thier "Officially Licenced" Clothing and Baubles in exchange for better products and service - safer roads with more awareness of motorcyclists - few if any evil looks from people thinking we're criminals or deviants for riding motorcycles - I'll be glad to do it !!

I never understoold why, back in the 70's and 80's, people looked down on people on bikes. Didn't they know that they would "meet the nicest people on a Honda", with "excitement between their legs", who were only "letting the goot times roll". Geesh, the intolerance and bigotry of some people.

Biggest posers in motorycling are the ones who own all these chopper t shirts, yet no motorcycle at all, let alone a $30,000+ chopper.

Has anyone ever tried to approach a guy sitting on his Harley and say...... "Nice Suzuki!"
