Having a bit of Harley swag doesn't mean you're dealing false messages... (not that I have any)...

...I've seen a lot of fat *** people wearing their favourite team's shirt and I don't for a second think they used to play for them.

As far as most people are concerned, we all ride Harleys. As long as we ride, we're good.

Default "Nice Harley"

It does surprise me that an M50 would be mistaken for a Harley, but that might be coming from someone that doesn't know bikes. I did have a harley rider once ask me what model harley my intruder was, and that he'd never seen that one before, there wasn't anything that said Suzuki real apparent on it.s

I think we'd be surprised to know how many people think that all cruisers are harleys.

Yeah, over here cruisers, whether they're Hardly Ablesons, Yamahas or Hondas, are called "American style bikes."

Speaking of t-shirts and Harleys. I was playing pool in a bar one night and saw a guy that looked like a hard core biker type, had a harley shirt on, had the long grey pointy beard, leather jacket. We were playing doubbles. Me and a freind of mine were playing these two older guys. So I see his t-shirt and say. "Harley Davidson huh?" and he replies. "Yup" ...."Cool I just bought a nice cruiser, I bought a Suzuki." He holls his eyes and gives me this (you gotta be kidding look) then he says "Only pure bred american muscle for me. Harley Davidson is the only thing I will ride." So I say, "Oh yeah what do you ride?" "Oh I dont have a bike, Ive never ridden one." But he had a nice t-shirt and his jacket matched his boots.

One thing I hate about the biker communty, is the "I'm too cool for any other kind of fun besides drinking beer and standing in the hot sun in black leather all day." Sometmes it reminds me of a giant "Who's your favorite Village Person" convention. I actually get bored with the whole motorcycle rally deal. I like being arround friends when I do that, but I wouldnt do it on my own. And I also have to tease my friend every time he wears his vest with all the pins on it.

In General:
I think it is safe to say that everyone here is into bikes and pays more attention to bikes then most people. There are a lot of people who are not into bikes like we are, but they can't help but to admire and complement a fine looking machine. I believe it is an automatic association with the name "harley" because that is what they have heard so many times.

You shouldn't hold that against anyone. After all, there are things that they know more about then you or I.

There are a lot of guys like the one you described. I think for some it's a fad, just like country music in the early 90's. Every country bar was full of guys wearing cowboy hats, boots, and wranglers who never owned a horse or even rode one before. I think that when people aren't happy with themselves, they try to be someone they are not.

I hate when people ask me "So when are you getting a Harley?" or something to that effect.

I work with some people that refer to my Marauder as a "Japanese Harley", how lame.

No offence meant, but some of you might be being just a little to sensitive about this. After all, you don't get upset when someone asks you to hand them a Crescent wrench, or a Kleenex tissue do you? It's just brand association.
