Default Suggestions on Delivering New Bike

I'm about to officially become a member of the Suzuki family. After a month of reading, completing MSF class, attending 2 bike shows and visiting several dealers numerous times, I located a C50T on Cycle Trading and plan to buy it this weekend. The challenge is: My MSF certificate has yet to arrive, so I'm not licensed for another week and I am uncomfortable as a Newbee, driving 50 miles to my home without some familiarity time with the bike. What suggestions does this fine group have on hiring a truck to transport or an experienced rider to deliver the bike.
Thanks
Steve in Atlanta

I'm glad to hear that you made you choice for the C50T, I sorta partial to it.

If you are the least bit uncomfortable don't ride the bike home. No need rushing it, have it delivered then take short rides, as you are comfortable.

I would consider renting a trailer since I have vehicles that are tow capable, I have a variety of ratcheting straps, and I am comfortable with towing. If you hire someone, make sure they have experience with motorcycles and are insured.

Did you ask the dealer if they deliver. Some shops have a trailer or truck they use for bike pickups, or have someone who does it for them.

Atleast you will be closer to your normal driving route if you have it delivered. Both times that I bought bikes, the first time I was a noob, the second I was VERY rusty, I just rode them home. Probably not the smartest thing, considering how far form home the dealers were. Atleast this second time it was a straight shot home, 45mph speed limit and hardly any traffic. There was a turning lane probably 50% of the way and a large shoulder, which made me feel better, as I atleast had room to dodge traffic and had some room for error.

BTW, if it's a new bike, they usualy offer free delivery. I atleast two of the local dealers do that because they would rather not have people wreck on their property.

Fortunately, I'm purchasing from an individual, who took delivery of the bike, new, 6 months ago and has put on 5 miles since. The price was excellent and I HAD to buy it.

I would have someone else ride it over - everything else seems costly and troublesome.

Okay, now we gotta hear the story behind him only putting 5 miles on the bike.
PS..... don't let him deliver it.

i usually put my bike on the bed of my nissan pickup truck. i borrow my buddy's ramp and tie down. my intruder fits nicely even though it's a small truck.

good luck and you are lucky to get such a deal.

U-Haul definitely. In NY, the cost per day is about $16 including tax. My bud and I hauled his Fatboy without any problem at all. Trailer rode smooth at 70 on the freeway. The U-Haul "do not exceed" warning is 45. Don't worry about it.

Trailer also has a nose built in to cradle your front tire. Ramp drops down to load your bike. Plently of tie down areas.

I've rented a few times. Never had a prob.

Go for it.
