Being sweaty is alot more comfortable than skin grafts.

I live in Texas that's why I have a Mesh Jacket. Keeps the sweat down.

I always wear the right gear, full leathers, full face lid, gloves and boots.
I always stay alert, treat everyone else as idiots, expect the unexpected and try to ride safely.

I am a great believer in experience being the greatest teacher.

True. I always try to learn from other's mistakes and/or experience.
It's not that I don't learn from my own mistakes, but rather, I learn from others so as to avoid the mistakes (whenever possible).

all I see on the road here in Ca. is helmets that look like a yamaka with a strap. I wear a full face helmet jacket and boots. The ones who make fun of me are the same ones who think if your bike did not cost 30 grand your not cool so I do not put much thot in what thay think...

My thoughts... safety starts with choosing the right bike according to your skill level.

Not yet... not until your wife gets off the back seat.

Well, I could have said it was your mom, but I'm just way too nice... and I care about her safety too.

My wife is from Texas and we visit frequently. The heat can get down right brutal in the summer. I applaud you for wearing more than just a pair of shorts. Not so sure I could tolerate doing less than 70mph on a bike in that heat.

Yes, but can he walk across your swimming pool without getting wet? If so, have him turn it into wine (I would recommend a 1995 Napa/Sonoma Cabernet) and bottle it up!

last summer, fourth of july weekend, i went to corpus christi from dallas on the bike. i wore my jeans, boots, denim jacket, fingerless gloves and my full face helmet. the temp down there was 110 F.
any speed at all on the bike makes the heat tolerable. the real trick is to stay hydrated, which for me meant that everytime i filled up the bike i filled me up too.

Thanks!

Thanks much! I hope so. You may be right on target. Wednesday we were together warming the bikes. Conversation started about "Pete's wordrobe". Well, fastforward, I ended up calling the guy from CCSaddlebags.com to order stuff for some of my buds so they could get the extra discount I am getting. So you are right! It seems that they are becoming believers in short term. LOL they are even thinking about what to wear for 4th July. The one who is a sherrif is the most resistant but then he comes around on his own. Pride! Now I am in trouble chasing these B@$t?? for my food stamps money.

Wonderful post!
It helps a lot with some issues I am facing with some friends. You information is a great example (Specially for my friend Dave who thinks everything is T Shirts and Timberland boots ). Ironic that this Dave goes to Mexico and dresses like a model that Jack. In Mexico the heat does not bothers him.

its kind of funny to see other riders out there and what they are wearing. around here (florida), most sportbike riders wear full protection, most harley riders wear boots and jeans with tshirts (as tight as possible) and half helmets or usually no helmet. most goldwing riders wear shorts, polo shirts and deck shoes.

i wear boots, jeans, jacket, gloves and full face helmet anytime i am on my bike. a guy that lives in my neighborhood and i ride with (he rides a honda vtx) occasionally wears a long sleeve tshirt and half helmet as "protection" and always makes fun of me for what i wear. last year, he locked up the rear coming to a stop at a red light, got bucked off and busted up his chin, arm and legs. had to go to the hospital, stiches, etc. and that was only at 20mph. i try to tell him that if that happened to me, i would get up and be pissed about my bike rather than taking a ride to the hospital. also, what would happen to him if he fell at any speed?? it falls on deaf ears. thats his problem not mine though.

oh and another funny thing - earlier this week i rode to my local dealer to pick something up for my dad (and drool over their m109). i saw a chick up the road on am r1 wearing daisy dukes, tshirt, sneakers and full face helmet with long blonde hair coming out the back. she pulled into the zuki dealer right behind me and went in. she was SMOKING hot but so stupid for riding like that. all i could think of was that blonde chick that fell off her buddies bike and got all tore up, someone posted pics here a few weeks back. i really wish i wouldve had the pics to show this girl and maybe convince her to wear some gear.
