Default Rider down

Never depend on anybody to do anything for you. We had rain this weekend, and as a result, I figured the dirt road I lived down would be muddy. I called my mom tonight and asked if she could walk/drive up to the gate to tell me if it was slick (as that is the worst area). Well she didn't, but told me it was fine. So I rode the bike home and ended up wiping out coming through the gate. Broke the right front turn signal, scratched the right side and headlight fairing up, bent my rear brake lever, dented my exhaust pipe, and shattered my frame slider. The frame slider didn't do **** for the fairing, what a waste of money. Thanks for nothing.

Mud=slick When you get used to doing something, sometimes we take it for granted. Hind sight is 20/20 and you realize that attempting it when there is mud is a silly thing to do.

Sorry to hear that you busted up your baby. Hope you get it fixed soon and get back on the road. I dropped my first bike once, luckily it just scratched it, but I will never forget the feeling of it happening. I was devastated.

Unhappy

Really sorry to hear this surprised the slider didn't work and that u picked up that much damage on dirt/mud...how much did those sliders extend out beyond the fairing? When I lowsided my sv the slider got ground down a good amount but it saved the bike from serious damage. Hope you can get things fixed soon...glad you didn't get hurt at least.

The slider didn't work because it stuck in the mud and allowed the plastic to hit. Had you been on cement, it wouldn't have sunk and would have been able to better save your bike.

I actually hurt my leg, my adrenaline has been pumping so damn hard for the last hour I didn't even notice til now.

I survived riding two up in the rain for the first time all day yesterday, and I dump the thing going 10mph, how gay is that?

I'm ordering a side fairing tonight off eBay. I think I can paint the front fairing. I'm looking for some flush mounts and some new sliders.

I called my dad to come help me get the bike up. My mom comes out and starts yelling at me. I yelled back and said 'all I needed was for you to check the road!'. My dad hauls off and hits me across the side of the head. It took all my strength not to knock the crap out of him right there. I told him if he ever hit me again I would beat the crap out of him. (edited version)

I've been complaining about that spot in the road for 4 months now, ever since I nearly wiped out on the 250. He kept saying he would fix it (since he screwed it up to begin with), but he never did.

I guess he was feeling guilty, because he came in later and apologized about the road and for hitting me. He said he would order some gravel this week, and split the cost of the fairing 50/50 with me since he never got the road fixed. I thought that was kinda cool, but I can't even look at him right now.

Do you pay rent or for any of the bills?
It's not cool that you got smacked but when you get married and have kids you will better see it from your fathers point of view. Nuff said.
Sorry to hear YOU dumped your bike.

Thumbs down

Chris. I'd like to start off by saying I'm glad you are OK and sorry to hear your baby has some bruises.
However, I've got to ask, do you really think it's your moms fault for you going down? Come on. Who's in charge of the controls??
As riders, we accept the fact that at any time something may cross our paths that can cause calamity.
Would it be your moms fault if a dear, moose, dog or any other animal jumped in your way sending you into the bush?
I got a real problem with people who blame others when the fault lies with themselves.
Yeah, your dad could have fixed the road months ago and your mom could have checked the gate area for you. But the fact that this has been an ongoing problem should have alerted you all the more so to be extra careful!
If anyone should be apologizing it should be you, for laying blame where you had no right.
My guess is your parents have done alot of things right bringing you up, things you could never thank them enough for...bringing you into the world for starters!
The bike is an object man. An object that can and probably will get fixed soon. Verbal and physical attacks will take alot more time to heal.
Be a man and make the first move.

Never trust ANYONE to check the road conditions for you. If you think that it could be slick, then go around that spot. You mother or father can't tell if it is too slick for a motorcycle. Don't expect them to know that.

Yea I know I'm responsible for what happened. The only thing is, if I had known before it was slick, I could have left my bike in town at work or something. But when I got home, I couldn't just leave my bike up at the paved road, I kinda had no choice then.

Inspiron, I couldn't go around it. The whole area between the gate is like that.

I can understand your frustration, Chris. It's been a learning experience in more than one way, so don't be too bummed. If you're really about the riding, a few scratches don't mean much. I hope your leg isn't so sore this morning.

Yea, i said last night that I wasn't gonna ride until I got it fixed. But I'm probably gonna ride tomorrow anyway. My dad called me earlier and said he was cleaning it up, and that it really didn't look too bad actually. Too bad I already ordered a fairing off eBay.

Oh yea, my left leg is all cut up and bloody and sore (which is strange since I went down on my rightside). But now my right knee is hurting too.

On another note, is there anything I need to check mechanically on the bike to make sure nothing is wrong? When I first picked it up and started it, the FI light was flashing. I shut it off, and when I started it later, it wasn't flashing anymore.

Leave your folks alone it’s not their fault your *** went down. More than likely you went off on your mother; I would have slapped the taste out of your mouth also.

Pitch in around the house and help fix **** it’s only been noticeable for 4 months.

Your old man should of stomped your *** where you stood. If you'd been mine your muddy *** would be sleeping in your pretty little mustang right now.

19 years old, a car, 2 bikes, and still living off of mom and dad. You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

Grab a shovel and fix the **** road if it bothers you.

Sorry to hear about you're going down and I hope you aren't hurt too bad.

Now with that out of the way.

The next thing you need to do is apologize to your Mother and then to your Dad. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. How can you blame your Mother for your wreck? You Father doesn't need to pay anything on fixing the bike either, he had nothing to do with you laying it down! If anything you should help pay to have the road fixed.
How much is your rent?

Sorry for the rant, I just had to get it out of my system.

Glad to hear you weren't hurt too bad. However, you need to remember this; the decision to ride or not to ride fall entirely on YOU! You, and only you, need to assess your bike's mechanical condition, your health, road and weather conditions, etc. before you slap on the gear and mount the saddle. Because you failed to do so and instead relied on others, you paid the price for it. Do take this as a learning experience. If I was put it this exact situation, I would have had my bike stored in a buddy's garage and asked my parents to pick me up.

I must also agree with others here in insisting that you apologize to your parents. You should not expect your mother to be fully aware of motorcycle handling capabilities on wet roads. How about your dad? Isn't he busy earning his paycheck to provide for his family and pay the bills? It wouldn't hurt to offer your dad some help to fix that road. It would make both of your lives easier.

Bikes can be replaced. Your parents can't. Repair your relationship with your parents, then fix your bike.
