Default 2001 katana 600 won't start

Just bought the bike and it will no longer start. I know it runs and have riden it. This morning I went out to start it and nothing. The starter is turning and evry now and then it seems like it wants to turn over(rpm's jump to about 800 the drop). When I gave up on it shortly after it backfired, I think. More like a light pop from the exaust. I have dranied the carbs and refilled them so I know they are getting fuel. I cannot see any spark when I check the plugs but I'm not sure on that. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure the battery is strong and fully charged. Inline fours will turn over on a weak battery but still not fire.

If the plugs are fouled, it can cause similar syptoms to what you mention.

Thanks for the help. Changed the battery. New plugs. Drained the tank and carbs again, new gas and a bit of carb cleaner and she runs nice. Thanks again.
