Thumbs up $250.00

Washington state is substidized also, still costs you $100,if you can get in,if you don't sign up by Feb you won't get in until August or Sept.
That's why I paid the unsubstidized price of $250 for a 2 day intense class(normally 3) in May got in in nine days. I bought the bike in May and wasn't going to wait until August.
On the other hand I could have just took the paper test and driving test and got the learners permit,no driving at night,no passengers for 6 months. Cost: $25 for the permit. I decided to take the class because I was off a bike for 10 years.
I think it was worth the $250. I had a great couple of instructors. Probably saved my life(couple of times in the first week) by what they taught me.

This is the original post from 2/21/06. I paid $235 for the coarse I'm in right now. I'm amazed the price hasn't gone up since this was posted so long ago.

Default Getting back to riding after 35 years.

Hi Fellow Bikers,
I bought a 2007 Suzuki M50 Limited Edition a few weeks ago. So far I've logged about 1300 miles on it. I live in the foothills of Western North Carolina and have miles and miles of country roads to ride on. I haven't owned a motorcycle since my college days over 35 years ago, but I have ridden a slower two wheel vehicle (bicycle) nearly my entire life. Back when I was in my mid 40s I went out one day on my road bike and logged over 200 miles on these mountain roads! I averaged just under 20 mph.

Anyway, as I said, I got my new bike a few weeks ago and have really been enjoying getting back into motoring. Soon after getting the M50 I added the OEM windshield and also put on a touring passenger backrest and rack. Then I installed a set of saddlebags. Most of my rides so far have been in the 20 - 120 mile range. I plan on using the bike mostly just for cruising around and some day trips. My wife isn't into cruising as much as I am, but she gets out for a ride with me about once a week.

Take care,

Nick Mystic

It cost my wife 180.00 for hers. They even kicked one guy out of the basic class the second day and told him not to pursue bike riding, as he had no business on a street bike. That's a gutsy move on the instructors part, but at least he was honest and may have saved the guys life.

In Colorado, you can obtain a motorcycle endorsement through DMV or one of several different "schools." Since there are a lot of different courses offered throughout the state, they're fairly easy to get into. I took one of the 2-day private training courses for $199. Although I'd been riding a lot since the early 70's, when motorcycle endorsements weren't required (at least in North Carolina), I did learn/relearn quite a bit. Because the class began with 4 students, and ended with 3, there was obviously a lot of individual attention and opportunity for practice.

There was a harley/buell dealer who wanted $285 for a MSF class just because you would be riding ~500cc Buell blasts, but other than that every Community College was around $25.
That sbecause you took a state sponsored class. The private classes can charge as much as they want. The state fully sponsors a limited number of courses mostly taught at CC or local schools.

In CA, if you're under 21 it's $150, and if you're 21 or older it's $235. I just took it at MJC (I live in Tracy and the closest two programs were Antioch or Modesto) for $235 back in November of '07.

EDIT: Hahaha I didn't realize how old this post was until I replied to it...

I paid $200 in GA last year. It was the same with most states, pass the driving test and the written, you get a little card in the mail a couple weeks later that you take to the DMV. Here the DMV still charges for the new license, but you have the tests waived.
