Yea I know it is a bragging rights thing,, but why would you seriously want to try to destroy your engine doing it???? Even though I know my old Chevelle's engine was built to hold up to 7500 rpm,, I never revved it higher than about 4000 rpm and that was racing the engine.

To each his own,, but I still think it is a silly argument going into a dealership and saying that "I just bought this bike and you guys said it will rev to 17500 rpm and I find out that it will only rev to 16000 rpm,,, I want my money back. If I cannot sit in my driveway and rev the engine to 17500 rpm or be able to run 180 mph on the highway then this bike is useless to me."

Guess that would be the grownup in me talking,, if I was a 17 year old I guess I would be more on their side. But the manufacturer is still wrong and I am glad to see them stepping up to the plate.

A 17 year old has no business on a brand new "R" bike. About the only person here I would expect to see riding any bike over 10000 rpm is 'Nut, and only then on a track.

They had to make compromises somewhere to get that high anyway. I'm not sure how confident I feel about the reliability of an engine that's stretched that tight.

Only one guy on this whole board runs bikes hard? I am used to people that run hard so I guess that suprises me.

87gsxrnut is our resident racer. He rides his bikes hard.

There is rarely a reason to take a bike to the redline on public streets (unless you forget to shift, as in my case).

If I were to push it, my bike can go from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds. Using that kind of acceleration on public roads is just stupid - the cages aren't expecting some crazy guy on a blue machine to launch like a F1 racing car, and will probably do something stupid (and painful for me).
