Default Another wear your gear thread

I found this on a local forum. It's not only a waer your gear thread because if the rider wouldn't have gone so stupidly fast this would not have happenned.

Quote:
"Here's the jist of it: I was a passenger on my friend Sean's GXSR 750, we were going WAY fast on highway 550 (that means about 120mph), and my helmet visor flipped open, making me instantly un-aerodynamic, and ripping me off the back of the bike. I tumbled 522 feet down the highway and slid to a stop across the yellow lines at mile marker 8. The guy riding behind us said I looked like a bag of trash rollin' down the highway, and he had to swerve to avoid hitting me. I ended up on my stomach, with my right arm pinned underneath me and my left arm extended out onto the road. My clothes were shredded, my helmet was ****ed, and my shoes were gone... they had all been claimed by the cement. My injuries included, but were not limited to, 50 percent body coverage of third degree "pavement" burns , which we lovingly call "road rash." To get an idea of what this means, some of my bones, tendons, and even internal organs were exposed in several places, and chunks of muscle and skin were completly missing. I lost half of my left breast (which I still am sad about). I also dislocated my right big toe and severed all the tendons in my left pinky finger. However, I didn't break any bones whatsoever. This is probably because I let myself go limp, as I just wanted to die while I tumbled on the cement. The ambulance arrived 45 minutes later because we were out in the middle of nowhere (Indian Reservation!). Once the Paramedics realized the extent of my injuries, they called the helicopter out and flew me to UNMH, where I stayed until just yesterday. So, after 8 surguries and 2 long months in the hospital, I am happy to report that I am home and alright. But, I did have to learn to walk again, and my scars will never go away, and many scars I do have. As of now, I look pretty gross under my clothes, but my pretty face survived.

Of course, I do not regret getting on the bike because you never know when something like that could happen. It was a Sunday drive, and I was sober when I chose to ride. Nothing could have changed what happened or even warned me about the problem with my helmet. I only hope that poor Sean has stopped blaming himself and that he comes with me to Vegas for my birthday. It's amazing what you can learn about a person if you simply fall off their motorcycle. "

WARNING!!! PICS ARE GRAPHIC!!! ROAD RASH GALORE!! The girl is in her underroos, no thong, cover as much as a bathing suit bottom, but isn't showing anything, she covers her top. If in doubt, wait until you get home to open.

Good to see she survived, this did not have to happen!

Such a shame that something like this had to happen to a beautiful young woman.

I saw this on a few other forums and still can't figure out how big her visor has to be to move 130 pounds off of a bike.

This is merely speculation, so take it FWIW. It may be possible that when her visor flipped open, it may have surprised her enough that she temporarily lost her grip on the rider. Since the bike is moving really fast, the rider had to be crouched to decrease wind resistance. If she was at an upright position at that moment, she would have encountered enough wind to blow her off the bike.

Stupid hurts. She hopes Sean has stopped blaming himself? The frickin' idiot was doing 120 mph with a passenger. It's his fault for being an idiot, and her fault for riding with an idiot. According to her account of the accident, she didn't learn a damn thing either. I hope Sean learned something....

I don't look at this as a wear your gear thread, it's more of a "Here's what happens to stupid people" thread....

That at least from the look fo the pictures.

Stupid. Yes very stupid. If you are going to take chances, do it on a track, and never with a passenger on the back.
Let's look at how we learn what we can, and can't get away with. When we are young, we learn that if we put our hand on a hot stove, we get burned, every time, so we stop doing that. Wasn't realy much fun anyways. Going fast is fun, and we learn that most of the time we can get away with it, and in a lot of cases we are even encouraged by our parents to do it, and without any protection. How many of you have ever been thrown up in the air by your dad, or taken to the sledding hill by your mom? our parents teach us a lot of things that could hurt, or even kill us. I know that's pretty tame stuff compaired to going 120 mph on a motorcycle, but as we get older (not wiser) we push the envolpe farther, and faster, and we learn that most of the time we get away with it. If it was like the hot stove, and we got burned every time, we wouldn't do it, but it's not.
I'm not sure if I really have a point, but I know i've done a lot of things that could have hurt, or even killed me when I was younger. i'm sure a lot of you have too. We as humans especially the male half seem to have a need for speed, so when I hear about something like this happening, I try and cut them a little slack. Taking risks is one of the things that makes the human race what it is. Look at all the high-risk sports we spend mega bucks on, and many hours watching on tv. Anyway, yes Sane was being stupid, and sometimes stupid hurts. But hey, I've been there, and done that, so I feel a bit like a hypocrite telling him he can't.

Such stupidity has no excuse. I hope it was not her who challenged him to go faster and the brainless went along with the foolish idea. It was a loosing situation in all aspects.
Ironic how she is content with having saved her pretty face. Somewhat seems like this does not mean all that much to her. "Oh well, another boo boo and it will get better again. I am still pretty." Pretty marked indeed!!

I have noticed each year for the past 10 years, more riders wearing less gear than ever.

I sometimes think people do not value themselfs enough or maybe I am just getting older. I would rather be a little warm than wear road rash.

My thoughts exactly! If I'm too warm, I open a zipper vent or my face shield to let a little air in and I make sure that I drink plenty of water.

+1, regardless of the bike I ride. I do not ride a motorcycle just to make a fashion statement.

I have a feeling that this online comunity has a better understanding of what gear can really do for ya. So as a comunity I think we are a bit safer than some others. I'm definitly with you guys. I'd rather wear my gear and be a bit warm that get some skin graphed off my butt to try and put my arms back togeather.
Just my 2cents

I have helped a lot of new riders over the years and always stressed wear the gear. But I wonder if as a community of riders if there is a way to become more vocal as the message does not seem to get thru.

I crashed my car in 1986. I have scars on my forehead from that. I currently wear fullface helmet now because I don't need any more scars. I sweat a lot in the summer but don't want to put my kids through seeing me really messed up! Plus, it hurts like hell.

I have never ridden a motorcycle without at LEAST a helmet! I always have my helmet and jacket on (always with jeans or pants of some sort), and 90% of the time, I have my gloves on too.

+1 on this EZ...just a horrible thing. That's why I'm head to toe in full gear (jacket, overpants, gloves, helmet, boots), wearing jeans as bottoms alone with jacket helmet and gloves doesn't even happen now except maybe if i'm going one block over. Jeans don't hold up in a crash very well, from experience I know.

and 120 mph with a passenger...wth seriously...
