Default gorilla or scorpio paging alarm + general security

i've researched this forum, other bike forums and the net about the gorilla and scorpio paging alarms and no one seems to really say how good the range is on the pager.. specifically i want to know how good the range is in an underground parkade.. will it work through 2 concrete floors?

i don't really want to buy a normal alarm because i won't be able to hear it go off at night. i've also heard that gorilla is easier to install but the range is better with the scorpio? t or f?

as for other security - i will have my bike covered with 2 disk locks, secured to the ground by a bike brace and parked behind my truck.

yes, i live in a very high theft/property crime city.. sucks. but the riding is great, when the weather is nice

There's only so much you can do, if someone wants your bike bad enough, they will take it. If the precations you are already taking don't stop them ,I doubt an alarm system will make any difference.

I have the Scorpio pager alarm. I work in a grocery store and park my bike right in front of the store by the front door. I lose the signal every time I go to the back room and about half the time I’m on the floor. Mine has the feature that warns anyone that gets close to the bike that there is an alarm on it. That feature can be set very sensitive and with the Scorpio it uses microwaves. Others use infrared that doesn’t work as well. As far as the installation, if they make a factory connection kit for your bike the installation should go very quick.
Overall it’s a good alarm, but I am disappointed with the pager range.

So does the Scorpio go off if the bike is bumped in the least or is it primarily a proximity alarm?????

G. Girl
I am in Newton the crime capital of North America...............
I was just at Langely Holeshot to-day, asking questions about alarms.
The one I was looking at was the G Force 200 for around $300, it has the pager option for another $150. What I liked was it can be ordered with a harness specific to make and model of bike.
I am going to try and find more info on the web.
Let me know how you make out.

If the bike is bumped it will go off. That feature also has a sensitivety adjustment.

For around $300 to $350 you can get the scorpio with the pager.

You should see prices here in the land of the North.
Shipping from the south involves broker fees, freight, collection fees.

I looked at the scorpio, the scorpioS and the scorpioSE.
On E-bay one was around $284, $337 and $357.

Which model do you recommend. Have you compared to the G Force 200, 200p or 300p.

hmmm.. that is what i heard about the range.. then again i have heard they should work up to 5 storeys in an apt.. do you live in an apt w/an underground parkade? have you ever used it and had success at a mall or some place like that?
scorpio advertises the range is 1/2 mile - but it's prb just like walkie talkies and their advertised ranges.. i bought some with a range of 18 miles and it goes about 4-5 blocks from inside my condo.

hey, i hear ya. i live in the gvrd as well. i wonder if there is a way to get a bait bike to always park by our bikes?
you should invest in a bike brace as well if you haven't already.. i heard the device has yet to be defeated but if they have the tools i heard they leave the wheel and take the rest of the bike. great eh?
anyways, hopefully there is a good paging system out there..

Hummmm

You guys are scaring me a bit. I work in a hospital that is in not the best area in Philadelphia. There has been a number of vandalism even inside the parking lot. The hospital even has its own Police force along with the University. I've been warned by some of them to be careful where parking my bike when i start taking it there. Hum!
I am not convinced that those alarms are any significant. I agree that when they want your bike they will even take you with the bike.
Is it true that brake locks are a better deterance? I have considered that and the Lock master handcuff locks.
...Your Opinions are????

I use a disc lock that has an alarm in it.
It is overnite parking, where paging may help.
The proximity alarm can used when you are parked at a store or some place like a dealer, to keep people off your bike.
I like the idea that if the alarm gos it kills the starter system.

Trying to find the best for the buck is where this forum and it's members really shine thru.

What they advertise are ideal conditions. I work in real world conditions and those are my stats. Sorry. I never set my alarm at home. Bikes in the garage.

I also use a 1 inch dia. cable lock to lock my bike to a pole. Sad isn't it?
