Default Pinks!

Have any of you seen the show Pinks on the Speed Channel? The premise being heads up racing you loose the race you loose your ride. For the most part I felt it was more whining and drama then was nessesary. But I saw one on Sunday with a Vrod taking on a Suzuki 1100 circa 1980s. Now dollar for dollar the guy who owned the Vrod had a lot more money on the line. It was a 1/4 mi and no one got any lengths. When it was all said and done the Suzuki owner is now a Harley owner. Ya gotta love it.

I've seen that show months ago and posted the blow-by-blow on the racing forum before the threads got deleted. Awesome race though. Who would have thought the old Suzi got some life left in her.

That show is okay if there's nothing else automotive related on the tube (can we still call it the tube). It just seems staged. At times you can tell that the inexperienced actor/players are reading or recalling the lines from memory.

That show makes me ill. I hate the sh$t talking. I did a lot of street racing when I was younger. There was some smack talk going on but my buddies and I never went into it..."we just said bring it to the line. "
I remember one situation where a guy on a old saki 2 stroke challenges a guy with a 34 ford coupe .....whoa the guy on the bike even got 3 bikes lengths..
One thing about that type of racing...always know what your opposition has under the hood.
9 second 34 coupe against a mid 11's bike! It was funny..the race gas spewing from the coupe didn't even give the biker a hint to his demise. Can we say SMOKED!

I used to take alot of money in my highschool days from young guys working on the pipeline with lots of money and no clue. Most succesful was a clapped out (at least, the body was) 1969 Coronet R/T- with a <ahem> "stock" 440 magnum in it. It was really a stroked 440 with extensive head and carb work, stall converter and 4.56 gears, exhaust cutouts and "cheater" slicks (this was before DOT aprovved slicks) and steel rims. I have been around drag racing since seven years old, and had raced every weekend since I got my learners permit. That thing ran low 11s all day- had the trophies to prove it LOL- Camaroes, Vettes and Mustangs were my main targets. Made more money that way than the little jobs I worked as a teenager, by far. I had to change cars about every other summer though, word would get out. I finally stopped doing the sleeper thing though because MY reputation got out of hand, and no matter what I raced, someone thought it was "breathed on"- so I went to a 68 Cuda with a Hemi in it (no, not original) that was a true 9 second street car, and then things got very interesting and out of hand. Not long after that- we had a major crash in our economy up here, and all that excitment went away- thankfully LOL

I remember going and checking out the street racing with my brother a lot which was banned in my family. To explain: My Dad died on the dirt track in a wreck so out of respect and fear, my brother and I were not allowed near a race track or fast cars.

A friend of his raced alot in an old beat up 77 Chevy truck that was souped. Amazing how many people he'd race and just assume he had a 350 in there. It was purpose built to fool idiots out of their money. My brother would help him work on some of the cars he won and supplied with the money he won..hehe.

My brother got the mechanical talent in the gene pool, I got the driving skills...lol I'd type more but I'm tired..8 days working straight now so I'm off to bed.
