Default Dr. Phil and Motorcycles

Someone emailed this around at work, supposedly from the Dr Phil show...

Quote:
A couple was breaking up because the husband had "overspent" on a number of toys, including a rather nice Ducati of some version. The wife had said that in order to pay off bills, he should sell his toys, including the Ducati. He said "no" to selling the Ducati, which left them still in too much debt.

The Mrs. delivered the ultimatum, to which he also said "no".

Dr Phil said to the guy " don't you think you would rather have a marriage than a motorcycle?"

The guy says " you don't understand.... it's a Ducati."

Dr. Phil says, "You don't understand, it's your marriage."

The guy says "You really don't understand, do you? It's a Ducati we're
talking about here."

Etc., etc. Apparently Dr. Phil was incredulous that the guy didn't "get it."

I clearly see the guys side of it. He obviously is married to the wrong woman. I think lil missy needs to get with the program and understand she can be replaced.

I made the remark...well gotta sell the bike to build a garage..The wife got pissed. I had to calm her down. I told her I would buy another one and she said ok...this is why I now have a hammer verses a v-star...her comment was that I must upgrade from the star and the hammer was the next choice...even joked about selling BLISTIC...she didn't take that as a joke at all...so lil missy needs to get with the program...this overspending on toys...she needs to understand the toys make us who we are. That is like taking away someones identity.
whether it be a guy or girl..
Clearly she needs more counseling.
I am sure the husband sould take a few high performance driving classes while she is in therapy...

Ya sure got a good wife Pete! Now if I can only find one like that... Got a buddy of mine who is a hard core motocrosser. Before his engagement was even announced, he had to sell his Yammy YZ125 dirt bike. His fiancee would never let him ride a motorcycle, no exceptions. I work with the girl too, so I get her ever constant words of warnings about my motorcycle lifestyle. She's a sweet girl and all, but highly intolerant of motorcycles.

I say while the wife is seeing ANOTHER doctor for therapy, the husband should take the Duc out for track day.

My wife almost cried when I said that I was going to sell my Marauder, she loves that bike more than I do. I think it's because after riding it, I'm not so hyper, and off the walls. Riding is one of the most calming things I have ever done!! My wife RULES!!!!!

Shirley you jest?

I envy you guys with wives that support your riding lifestyle. For those of us that ride, our motorcycles are part of our identity (as you pointed out earlier). It's unfortunate that some people don't see it that way. About my motocrossing buddy, his fiancee doesn't like bikes because she feels they're dangerous. Although I can agree with this, there are many other things out there that pose risks to others. We take risks every single day we live and breathe. It's up to us to manage those risks so that we don't end up as yet another statistic.

I'd be cool with a woman that likes to ride pillion. I'd prefer one with her own bike. Not too much of the latter exists in my neck of the woods though.

Well, if motorcycling is an important part of your life, then why would you marry someone who wasn't at least somewhat supportive of it?!?!?!?

We are still missing the point here. In reading the original quote it's not a question of having the bike it's what you can afford. The bottom line here is this guy needs a reallity check and your right he was probably to imuture to get married to begin with. I hope he doesn't have kids because if he does then he will pay thur the nose once they get the divoce and there won't be a Ducati.

I justify my bike by driving an old car I bought with cash so I don't have a car payment. My bike payment is only $150 and my wifes car payment is $238 and I have lower intrest on my bike and the insurance is cheaper for my bike and truck put together than for my wifes car so there really isn't anything she can say. O, and the bike gets way better gas mileage than her car. My wife is cool about that kind of stuff anyway. She doesn't care if I play video games all day on the weekend cause she has her own xbox and loves to play too. She can kick some butt on Halo 2.

I personally don't have any time for guys that overspend on toys, when they don't have the dough. Earn the damn dough, then get the toys- that is the manly way to do things. I got enough toys to fill a freakin warehouse- and do fill a warehouse LOL- but my wife won't say a freakin' word- because me toys NEVER come before family-

a real man knows where his priorties are.

I know one lady says something like "your husband sure did spend alot on that___" my wife says "well, that is because he can do whatever he wants with any money that doesn't go to feeding and housing his family" -

you don't have to have a woman that is into bikes for it to be a good marriage or someone that has the same bad habits as you (in this case- impulse buying) - just someone that understands thier priorities, and have the same HEALTHY priorities you have.

I wouldn't even think twice about getting rid of every bike and race car and hot rod and toy I have if I had to choose between my wife my lifestyle. F the Duke, stop being an irresposible jerk and be a MAN LOL

Yeah a MAN should have his priorities, and a family does come before anything else. Sounds like a poor match for that first couple in the letter. Dr. Phil is a real tool.

Now we are getting the point. I was always taught a roof over your head, and food on the table first. I don't care what a man does for an honest living if he can't provide for his family something is wrong.

It's opportunistic and self-righteous people like Dr. Phil that are dangerous! Bikes aren't toys, their tools for freedom!
