Default hey everyone whats up

hey whats up i am new to this board and very new to riding. i just turned 21 and got me a suzuki katana 600F, when i tell people that i just got a bike they are like you are going to lay it down and kill yourself .

safety gear : helmet, a leather jacket(dont know what brand came with the bike).i am going to get gloves.any other suggestions on safety grear because i know if i fall dont matter what speed it is it is going to hurt. like jeans or legwear, boots or shoes??

i am learning slowly by going into a parking lot and turning for about 30 min a day. then when i feel brave riding with a EXP buddy on the roads.

Take the MSF course, read thru the threads as they recommend some good reading material.
A few of the magazines have riding tips. Check your local Library, they may have magazines and videos.
Ride safe.

Your risk goes waaaaay down when you do all the right things. You're wearing gear, which is good, but that only helps after you've lost control and crashed. Like blackie said, get some proper training. Teaching yourself or learning from an unqualified friend is not a good way to go.

Welcome.

Hi, I have the same to say as the others. Wear the right gear and get the right training, once you know the basics you can get out and get some riding time and experience.

Ride safe and have fun.

WELCOME. Def. take the motorcycle safety course. I started the way you did and was doing all right, but after the course I really developed confidence and skill that would have taken much longer without the course. Enjoy your new hobby and I hope it's warm where you are. There's a cold spell here in PA ;-(

Just how many miles do you have on your bike and what insurance coverage do you have?

well i was riding the bike on the road going to the local bike shop. when i was in my right lane and preparing for a lane switch when i had on my blinker for about 500 yards so EVERYONE would know that i was and needed to get over. well the truck in the left lane proceeded to slow down out of respect(which he was pulling dirt bikes) well there was a tan truck behind then dirt bike truck. well check my mirrors again then proceeded for my lane switch ,now smack dab in the middle of the highway when the tan truck came out and speeded up into where i was trying to go...........OMG i was so F'n pissed. when i pulled to the local shop the dirt bike truck went there also and he was pissed also that i was so careful and that happened

Important safety lesson: Don't get pissed off cages. Expect that they will do something stupid ... you'll usually be right.

welcome aboard man! Get that MSF under your belt! There is a reason you'll hear so many of us say to do it.
