Default Identifying serial # meaning

[i]Say, , I'm knew to this forum stuff and don't know much about suzuki bikes but I have inherited a couple of dead bikes from my brother who thinks he knows but don't. Any way I have one RM 80 with #16704 following on crankcase, and one DS 80 with #123408. I don't know what year they are or any thing about how to figure out what manuals to get or what year and model to use for ordering parts. Any info would be much appreciated.

Here's a quick link that has some information on the RM80. Looks like a 1977 model. You may be able to find the DS 80 information as well. These serial numbers don't give the same coded information as would a VIN number for a registered bike.

can you narrow it down by whether is has mono shock or pogies, liquids or free airs? there should be a serial number, a sticker type on the front end where the forks are attached to the top.....
my 2 cents???
