Default Cagers from NY suck

I know most of them aren't bad but there is one I will rant about. I am here in Niagara Falls, NY.
I went for a ride with Mallory(my friend) to hang out at the river spot and just chill. Well I am riding through town, doing app 30..which is the speed limit. I stop at a light, light turns, I slowly proceed and hear a horn like 2 cars back...look back but think oh well. I keep going constantly looking back, I see the car behind me be replaced by a foreign SUV, He speeds up right on my *** and nails the horn. I look back and give him the finger and proceed to ride along at speed...he stays on my butt, then flies up my right side and starts screaming at the top of his lungs about shoving my finger in not nice places and that I am some smarts arse punk that needs to learn his place or some crap...well im like whatever. He tries to cut me off swerving into my lane as I veer over even more left in my lane as he is still yelling..tell Mal to hold on and scream past him hoping to find my road shortly ahead,he matches speed and follows me, well I get stopped by another light as he cuts me off and locks his brakes up..i slow down with little problem no tire lock-up or anything. glad i was fully aware. He opens his door comes two inches from my face and screams at me about speeding the whole time and how i need to slow down and learn to drive. Mal is just telling me to turn the whole time and just take a side road . Pretty much it seemed like some guy having a mid-life crisis that needed to show his wife he could yell at two kids that he is jealous of. Either way I was pisssed that someone could do this. I couldn't remember his liscence plate # otherwise i would have called the cops and issued a report. So all and all I had a guy attempt to pretty much knock me off my bike twice in a mile...All this possibly because i didn't leave from a light too quickly...I am still wondering what his issue was and all the time he was cuzzing me out thats all i was asking him back..and he just kept blowing hot air...Blah...I hate riding on city streets. I hate dumb New Yorkers more. Thanks for listening guys. See you all soon.

Nick

This kind of attitude exists everywhere. Just be glad they are not carrying a piece. Be careful about who you try to piss off. (Cage drivers get easily pissed of because of the kind of gas price they are paying.)

When I was your age if some dude got up in my face like that, one of us would have ended up in the hospital, so I applaude your restraint. Well done. I will caution you on the use of the finger though. Its rough out there bro, and on a bike it's even rougher. Use the "bird" with caution.

I live in upstate NY (way upstate, closer to Montreal than Albany), and I've covered nearly all of new england over the last few years. I can honestly say that the worst one to share the road with is the Subaru (or volvo) wagon with Vermont plates and the little green peace sign bumper sticker. The drivers of those vehicles are rarely mean, but boy are they stupid. NYC drivers might be worse, but I've never had the courage to take a bike farther south than Rockland county.

I know what you mean mate, but I don't think I have grown out of it just yet. I am a really easy going guy, but I hate people who try to bully me, goes back to my school days (long story).

If you had been in Europe, you probably both would be dealing with the police now.

Flipping someone off is considered to be provocation, and you can be fined for that.

Someone cutting you off and hitting the brakes in front of you is also considered to be a prevocation, and can also be seen as assault with a deadly weapon.

Both will get you a ticket, or worse, your license revoked.

I try really hard to avoid rush hour traffic and large herds of cagers....they can turn on you in a second...but yeah there's always that time when even in your casual/mid traffic travels, ya run into that dominant male that's gotta show his stuff. In most cases, it's hard to avoid.

The best thing you can do the moment someone acts agressive on the road is pull over and let the dumb bastard go by. Riding on public roads is not a game and you can't win it but you can certainly lose.

Time for the sticker on the back of the helmet - "keep honking, I'm reloading"
Im orignally from that part of NY. Some great roads that i wish id had a bike to ride back when i lived there. Try riding 5/20 or up through the ADK's. Now I'm in arizona where its apparently a god given right to drive an SUV 45 over the speed limit and cagers dont look around them (too busy on the phone and watching TV) these people need out of the gene pool.

Oh.. my other car is a Subaru too.....

Not that I advocate violence against SUV's or any other cages (yeah right), but there were days when I wished I was driving a tank. Nevertheless, SVboy's level of restraint was commendable considering the circumstances. If you choose to offer up the universal peace sign, however, make sure you have an alternate (escape) route established. You never know what an angry cager has in his/her car.

Id almost rather have the cager in the SUV with the compensation issue at the start of this thread behind me - than the pink hippo.

he got out of the car and walked over to you to yell? wtf...you should wear the dainese gloves i have...i swear one punch to someone's face with em on, they'll be out. I'm surprised you were so calm after someone threatened you like that...I applaud you sir!

Considering I can have my cold steel voyager knife unfolded and at throat level in less than a second (been practicing my draw and strikes alot lately) I doubt I would have reacted that calmly. A driver yelling "learn to drive" out his window at me wouldn't get me that riled up, but someone coming at me and physically threatening me is a different story...

yea I tell you all something...The things you are thinking you would have done I wanted to. I thought about my girl first..She was so scared I just wanted him gone. If it was just me, I would have head butted him right in the nose with my helmet then prolly went at it because all i was doing was seeing red cept i felt a pair of arms around my stomach clenched as tight as they could get so I calmed down...otherwise He would have had to drag his sorry but back to his wife and cry for her to drive...Either way i was absolutely pissed but kept my calm for Mallory's sake. After we got to where we were headed I got off the bike and apologized that she was put through that...I am very surprised with myself in that I thought about her the whole time as opposed to me...but yea...It was all her guys...

QuacktheDuck: oh btw i have a pair of Joe Rocket gloves with carbon fiber knuckles..He would have been eating those had i been alone.

Cagers are a real bad problem in the DC Metro area. Problem is most of them here are armed.

I've never met a Mallory. I think we should call him Nick. "Heyyyy!"
