Hey there, Release date for Microsoft Windows FX (codename Longhorn) is supposed to be December 1st 2006. According to the article in this month's S.A. PC Format magazine, it looks a bit lame, just a tweaked version of XP, with some new colour schemes. Internet Explorer 7 will have the tabbed browser function of the Mozilla browsers. It will include WGF 2.0 (formerly known as DirectX 10) for graphics support. Although Microsoft have not released any official detail as yet, a "current" processor is necessary (around 3Ghz) 512MB RAM and a 256MB graphics card. Quote from the article: "Additional annoyances: Yes, there's still product activation. Yes, it still defaults to A:/ when you try to browse for drivers in Device Manager. Yes, it still takes ages to boot and install, despite Microsoft's promises that both will be dramatically faster come launch day, when apparently it will take 15 minutes to install. No, there's no sign of the anti-virus application in development at Microsoft. And yes, we're very sorry to report, there are still Blue Screens of Death - but now, purportedly, there's the added joy of Red Screens of Death for really, really big c**k ups." Will just have to wait and see, hey... |
