Default CD-ROM installation pillow??

This computer was brought in after being taken to a local competitor. When it was checked in the lady said she had originally had the computer serviced because it would not turn on. So the owner of the other computer store ordered a power supply, motherboard, CPU, power button, RAM. Installed everything and it still did not boot up.

Since all the new parts did not solve the problem, he charged her for the new parts, sent them back to Dell and threw most of her old parts away. Her bill was over $400 and this is how the computer was brought in to me.

I guess for some reason when he replaced the power supply he felt it was necessary to remove the CD-ROM drive. The CD-ROM in a Dell is a piece of cake to remove. Squeeze the tabs on the drive rails and slide the drive out. He couldn’t get the drive out and ends up breaking the drive rails, never even saw that inside the case there are spare drive rails. (See pic1 extra green drive rails attached inside the case) So instead of replacing the drive rails he puts the drive pack in and smushes a little pillow under the drive to keep it from falling out.

Also note that this computer does not have a power supply.

That is the latest in anti vibration technology. Dell will be offering them soon in all models. Shame this one is already showing signs of wear. But it is better to wear out the pillow than the drive.

That ought to have done wonders for cooling. Funny who'll call themselves professionals sometimes.

Any numbskull can mess up a computer. I guess that's why Alienware is the only seller of their system and they service them. Not some pimply faced kid whose dad got him a job at Best Buy.

Maybe I could try that with my seat. Prefer a feather pillow, though
