Default Today is the day

Well, folks, today is the day that we pay off the Accord a year early. I've been sitting on the cash, trying to decide and last night I said, Do it." She'll call today and pay it off. We owe a little less than 10 grand on it. I've been sitting on this (Gixxer) money for awhile, and we've decided that we're better off just paying the car off.

I still have some cash to cover the wife's school, which costs about $1500 every 8 weeks (accelerated night program - Christian Brothers University in Memphis . . . my alma mater), and the car note, at $750 a month will cover that anyway.

The wife says she wants to go back into the workforce in January. I'm not real happy about that, but it DOES mean that I can start car/bike shopping then. I don't really need a new bike, but WTH . . . I'll get one anyway. The Bandit was just intended as a learner. Not sure I'm ready for an upgrade yet. I'm thinking of either a 1200 Bandit, an FZ-1, or one of those groovy-looking Kaw' Z750S's. I've still got time to figure out the right bike for me. As per the wife, I can buy "whatever bike I want." Awesome, huh?

<newbies: note the lack of mention of a 'Busa, or 1KGSXR, even though I have more experience than you, and can get whatever I want. That should speak volumes.>

On the car front, I'm thinking Civic Hatchback. Assuming that I don't have to put much $ into the truck, I should be getting a new car sometime around December to March of next year. The 2nd gear synchro's already going out (91,000 miles . . . POS Dodge), so I may be looking at $1,500-2,000 for a tranny swap. If that's the case, I'll hold off on the car for another six months. Not because I won't be able to afford a car, but because I just don't like to throw big money at something that just sits (like the truck pretty much will when I get the Honda).

Shopping is fun (chickey did I say that), anyway by the time you are ready to throw down some cash, the '06's will be rolling and who knows what that might mean by then

Yes, it IS brandy . . . made by the Brothers themselves (seriously).

It's also a fine learning institution with colleges all over the world. Nationally ranked in engineering. I have no idea how I passed.

Since I started this BS thread, I'll use it to thread-jack my own topic:

Last Saturday night, I took the wife out for dinner (no, they didn't arrest anymore politicians . . . we have a standing date on Saturday nights) and we went to a town called Germantown. It borders Memphis and is 'ritzy.' They have traffic cameras (y'see where this is goin'?).

Well . . .

I <sort of> blew a light . . . while tipping an Icehouse.

You don't think they'll come arrest me, do you? I mean, open container should be a misdemeanor, right? It's not like I was toking on a number at the time (or was I? ). You don't think . . .

Congrats!!!!1 you know, i always thought buying a car on lease such as 48 months is kinda dumb...48 months is 4 years... by the time you finish paying off the car it may or may not be in crap *** condition (if you have kids in age group of 5-20 its deffinately ruined). I know its better for some people financially, but its weird, only benefits i see of it is:
1. more time to prepare money
2. not a big sweep of your cash as opposed to paying the whole thing off at once.
bad things are
1. costs more
2. after your 48 (can be more or less) month period, you may hate the car and kill yourself because your still paying for it....

i unno, its just me

Was your daughter in the car as you were drinking behind the wheel?

Nah . . . she was at her Granny's house. My parents look forward to Saturday nights because they get to keep her for 4-5 hours. I also look forward to Saturday nights (because they get to keep her for 4-5 hours).

We'll see you on the local news... Fox 13 Breaking News.... and then we'll see a pic of you. This town would dwell on something like for about 2-3 days.

I think my heart skipped a beat. You're exactly right . . . someone like DePrizio would bash me for two or three segments, until they gave me the maximum penalty, huh?

[EDIT: Dude, you need to try Mr. B's. It's in the Carrefour shopping center at Kirby and Poplar . . . around the back on the railroad side. Quality steaks (sold at market prices), with a cajun-seafodd twist. Without drinking a gut-full, two could eat for 50-ish or so.]

I hear ya, I just had to laugh when you mentioned the camera an how these reporters are. Knocking on your door... following you to work. Good luck and keep the blinds closed.
