(Author's Note: Several American female readers have questioned the "F-cup" claim. I'm no expert on such things, but I expect that there is a difference between American and Japanese cup sizes. Indeed some searching brought up a comparison chart that showed (as far as I can tell: the rest of the text was in Japanese) that a Japanese F-cup translates to an American/U.K. DD-cup. Ignoring this ...um... minutae, the point of the story still stands: it's fairly amazing what lengths even young girls will go to to "launch" a "career" even before they finish growing up -- and how an entire culture seems to be fine with offering her up as fodder for political posturing. -rc)

Yes by Western Standards this borders on pedophilia. We do not share standards when it comes to children. That may sound ethnocentric, but from all the evidence I have seen Children are considered state property to an extent.
I too did a double take at the photo, by any standards that is a cute girl in a bikini, but I was sickened beyond words to see that she is only 11 years old.

Yeah, on further consideration we are not much better. The only difference here is that there would be many angry protests of using an 11yr old in such a fashion. It may even nip it in the bud, but invariably it could just as easily happen here. Look at all the "Teen" pop stars and actresses that may or may not pass the 18yr mark that are seen as sex-symbols in the US. They are either encouraged to, or choose for themselves to use their sexuality as a marketing tool.
