Default She's Mobile!!

When we picked the girl up from her weekly stay at the grandparents' Sunday, my mom and dad told us she had crawled about 4 steps. We weren't there to see it (the wife sort of refused to recognize the event), so it's like it (sort of) didn't happen. Yesterday, the wife called me at work and said she thought the girl had crawled a little bit. Well . . .

The wife left for school last night about 6:45 pm. I fed the girl and bathed her and thought, "What the heck . . . I'll try some 'crawl coaching' and see where it goes."

I set her down about 5' from me and held my hands apart (in universal baby language that means "want me to pick you up?"). She rolled forward (off her bum), locked her elbows, and started the "trail of tears" maneuver. That's where she crawls to you, crying crocodile tears the whole way. Upon reaching you, she stops the crying and the giggling kicks in. Amazing.

Then, I just sort of left her to herself and she started motoring everywhere! I wound up spending the next hour just standing there, watching her, and re-directing her when she got near the bricks (fireplace).

Folks: The sound of a Pamper grinding to the beats of an infant's first crawling steps is a great one indeed. I hope I never forget it. It's right up there with the little coos and struggling sounds they make when they feed.

Now I gotta' go to the hardware store and plop down (probably $200+) for some kid-safe fixtures. I have to get the outlet covers, some sort of gating to keep her away from the fireplace bricks, some little door-lock thingys for the cabinets. Ugh!

I wonder if they make something that'll protect her from the cats? She got the littel one's tail and bent it into a pretzel a few days ago. Poor kitty. He "c0cked" his rear legs for a kangaroo-style strike, but never pulled the trigger. He just laid there and mewwed REALLY loud until I made the girl let go.

Poor kitty.
