I did not get selected for the case that I was interviewed for. It was a cocaine possesion case. I think that the defense attorney probably voted me off since I have a large family history of law enforcement! Dad, mom, now brother!

Who the ____ goes to trial on a possession case?

I'm guessing that they were contesting the grounds for the traffic stop.

For simple possession, it's much easier to skip the lawyer, post bail with cash (skip the bondsman . . . the bail will be applied to the fine), and call the prosecutor's office yourself. Ask for the investigator that's handling your case and request a judiciary diversion, sometimes called a deferred adjudication, depending on which state you're in.

If they let you plead out and take the above route, simply kick your habit for the probation period (6 months, a year, whatever, it's better than jail, eh?), report for your check-ups, and then have your record expunged when you've proven that you can be a good boy.

. . . or something.
