I seemed to have stepped on some toes in my local club. I was wondering how the rest of you feel about sharing the road with cyclist? Seems many motorcyclists do not like cyclists at all. Aren't we just one step up the ladder from bicycles, and one step down from a car in a sense? Here is a sample post I received: Hey, I blame bicyclists. I don't recall that it's legal to ride a road where there is no room or bike lane as it forces people to make room for them where there is none. And 150 as I recall ain't that wide. Granted the guy was in a Hummer but he was trying to make room for the bicyclists. I'm done. My response and personal opinion: I see this from both sides of the fence. As an Ex Road Racer/Cyclist, I don't believe it's illegal to ride on any road unless it's posted specifically, like freeways when a frontage road is available. Many sections of freeway it is legal to pedal the shoulder, just as it ison the 150. On the level or downhill portions I used to maintain legal and safe speeds with traffic while pedaling! Uphill is another story, BUT, I always road the fog line! If a car hits me while I'm on the fog line, then it is to damn wide for the road. I also always made sure to get over to the edge anytime I heard a, or saw approaching traffic from the rear. Not like a lot of cyclist I see these days. Many cyclist mentalities have changed for the worst. Theytotally piss me off, to see them riding below a safe speed, in traffic, more than one abreast, and they don't budge to make room. Bike lanes are an optional luxury for both cyclist and motorist. My Roadie days are over since a car took me out on July 30, 2003. But that was my choice, because physically, I can't do the hill climbs like prior to the accident, and that's what I loved the most. If I could, I'd be right back out there climbing the passes. I keep the pedals in the dirt nowadays. Just my opinion. Gixxerdale I'd really appreciate some feed back on this. Is it just an LA thing? Any other cyclists on the forum? Is there a line between cyclist and motorcyclist? PS, Louis and Uncle Bob, Pedaling a trainer in your garage, somewhere in the great frozen north does not count! |
