I was thinking today how life here in this country has changed. Alot of it is because of the recent economic downturn. My father's family moved from Alabama to Michigan in the 50's to get a job at GM. My dad walked off the street and into GM as a 19yr old and worked at the same plant for the next 37yrs. Still lives in Michigan, retired in his late 60's. My brother just lost his truck driving job in Detroit and is moving his family to Tennesee for work because there's nothing up there. More and more people are moving because they don't have much choice. The days of working for one company your whole life and retiring are all but over. I read an article that stated the avg. working class American will change jobs every 7yrs...........and that's the stable productive ones. People are moving across the country or to other countries in come cases to either better themselves or just to take any job they can. Therefore many of us are transplants. I was just curious how many on here are transplants. Where are you originally from? Why did you move? Do you miss your hometown or state? Are you happier in your new location & why? Would you ever move back? |
