Old posting, but thought I would give an update and also ask yet another question. I finally had the painters out to complete the job. They scraped all the caulk out, replaced with a very good elastameric caulk, painted all the trim around windows, stucco bands, etc where they re-caulked. Pretty much all I wanted them to do. They didn't do an entire repaint of the house, too expensive right now for them to do the entire body of the house. Next, I may just see about doing the body of the house myself. Anyone have any experience with scaffolding?

Sure. It's easy as long as you're on firm, level ground. Use adjustable foot plates if you can. Tie tall columns (3 or higher) off to the structure. Climb up the inside or use a ladder. Don't step off the end.

I'm sure I'll need to tie off, going up almost 40 feet, scaffolding calculator says I'll need 8 frames high using 5' frames. But a question, and please don't laugh, but how do you tie off to the structure? You talking drilling anchors, in my case, into the stucco?

If I'm gonna laugh, it's because you used a "scaffolding calculator". Are you sure it's that high? I've built some seriously tall two-story homes that aren't more than about 30-35'. Plus, you don't need 40' of scaffolding to reach 40'. The painter can reach 6-8' him/herself. Do anything you can short of damaging the home. Run a rope through a window to the doorknob.

Yeah, scaffolding rental places I searched online have "scaffolding calculators" to get quotes on how many frames, bracing poles, etc. you'll need for a particular job. Guess you could do it the old fashioned way with a pencil, pad, and the little rolled up tape with numbers on it........

you're going to love this one; recently (within the last 5 - 6 years) they have these little bucket trailers. Consisting of a bucket, a boom, and a small engine (6 hp) to run the hydraulics. rental costs are something like $130 / day, and in one day you can pretty much paint what you want. which is why scaffolding is going up on sale here and there; ain't worth the aggravation. and if that all confuses you, check here Home Page Ameriquip back in the day, they used to have operations in New Holstein, WI.

just buy some big ladders at your local home depot outfront of said homedepot there should be some really tan guys from a pretty good distance south tell them what you want and they will do it cheap.
