Suddenly I'm the oracle of all things beer in Atlanta???!!!

I live in the country and all we have is Ingles. Believe it or not in little bitty Barnesville we got a really nice new Ingles with a large walk in beer cooler. I'll look in there this week and let you know.

I'm not sure if Publix or Kroger carries it up here or not. I'd say no. Only a relatively few bars carry it on tap and some specialty beer or package stores will carry it in the bottle.

Before you come up I'd call both of those two Liquor Warehouse places to see what they have in stock. They can have a full supply one day and be out the next.

Supposedly Sweetwater is expanding into Tallahassee & Gainesville Florida. Or so I've heard.

Welcome to Green's Discount Beverage Stores

Looks pretty good. But I just friggin' detest doing anything near or around Alpharetta.

I have been tasting George Killian's irish Red, and think it's pretty tasty.

I'm still at a loss about the hype of Sweetwater. Not a bad beer but nothing spectacular in my opinion either.

All the talk of beer/alocohol stores reminds me of Frugal MacDougal in front of Carowinds in SC just over the border from NC.

Went to Flying Saucer a couple weeks ago, asked for Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat, they were out. Waitress suggested something I dont remember but said it was similar, ok sure I'll try that, she comes back, out of that too. I say surprise me, she brings me Spaten Franziskaner Hefe-Weiss, after struggling with the name a few seconds, I tried and really enjoy. Very nice wheat beer.

I can hook you up with some moonshine rounds those parts, but that's about it.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with that beer.

Ooount! No spreakin' de english.

Beer like everything else is a complete matter of opinion. There is no right or wrong. One guy loves a particular beer and another guy trashes it as pi$$water or bland. Thank goodness there's sooooo many different options to choose from today.

For those of you scoring at home. That's pronounced in them parts as:

Ayy-Dell.

Likewise, another nearby town, Cairo, is pronounced Kay-Row.

Similarly, Omega, GA is pronounced Oh-Mee-Gah.

I need some "help" from the M-J community. What is the better stuff on the lower end of the beer spectrum?

Specifically, there comes a time of year, where my bro-in-law and I try to "out-cheap" each other. It's not necessarily a competition of finding the cheapest nastiest beer. It's more or less a competition to find a decent tasting beer in the price leading categories.

Last week. He brought PBR to the table. (An old fave of mine.) I came back swinging with a canned case of Old Milwaukee. Believe it or not. The Old Millwater trumped the Blue Ribbon. Old Mill had a decent taste, poured with a decent head, and remained flavorful from first sip to last.

When I first drank it, I expected the worst. But I was met with a nice, clean decent taste (that reminded me of beer in the 70's....the 80's saw sweeping changes in the Big Brewing Biz, and not all of them were good...the powers that be tweaked recipes, used cheaper and cheaper ingredients, and pretty much alienated their core audiences..which was a boon for Budweiser/Anheuser Busch). The taste lasted throughout the beer, whereas the PBR had a crisp clean flavor that faded as the beer warmed in the glass.

Again. The Old Millwater was a nice surprise, and I'd actually go back to it. On a previous challenge, I went for some Gennessee. The much reviled and made fun of regional beer of my youth. To my surprise, it was actually a flavorful beer. Pretty darn good actually. I tried Schlitz a few years back. It was well...what you expect from a beer in that price point. Definitely not what I remember it to be either. I've heard they've reformulated it, but have not tried it. They've tried to recreate the original formula, since it's been changed multiple times since the 70's, they lost the original, and their way in the market coincidentally.

Any suggestions?

Anybody got experience with Old Style?

Houston County is pronounced: How-Ston

Doerun is pronounced: Door-Unn

All "Villes" (Barnesville, Douglassville...etc) are pronounced: Vulls

It's south Georgia's way of spotting a northerner in 2 seconds if you don't know the local language.

Order some from the Frankenmuth Brewery. I used to go there when I lived up there. It closed down for awhile but it's back in business again. Get yourself an Old Geyer's to try out.

$17 @ Costco.

The "unofficial" "Official" Beer of M-J dot com Riders South.

Nate..I got Kelley and company on the Yuengling path a few years back because of my refusal to drink Bud, Miller, Coors while we were out at Biketoberfest.

They liked it so much they christened it that name.

I just realized y'all just started getting it last October?
