Thanks Tim & Buster for the edu-ma-cation! I didn't know some of that info.

And I do think most of it is just marketing over here, like everything else! ..............I'm tired of trying to be sold EVERYTHING.

Stella Artois, is also known as "wife beater" as it seems to have an undesirable effect on certain people.

Me, I only drink it when Anne has misbehaved!

It is also a relatively expensive beer, so it the brew of show off's and wannabe's

American beers are definitely like having sex in a canoe ... effin' close to water!

German, Belgian and Czech beers are much better ... and stronger. Some have close to 10% alcohol.

And there is nothing better than a Guinness (on tap, not the canned crap) in an Irish pub!

Ha-ha! I wrote it off years and years ago as overpriced over-hyped shoite. Now that InBev has acquired A-B, they're pushing it everywhere. Even in crapholes.

That is the one good thing I've seen out of the InBev merger. Different beers coming out of the same breweries, (Look at the whole Michelob lineup, Bud Amber Ale..coming soon Bud Wheat), and the pumping of other brands. They're starting to show the American consumer there's more out there than just Bud, Bud-Lite, and Michelob (Lite, Lager, and Amber Bock).

All in all it's an exciting time if you're a beer lover. Whether the styles produced by the big brewery are correct or not is not the issue. It is the fact they are setting the market up for change. Hell...Miller/Coors are in on the act too with their thinly disguised fake "craft breweries" that pop up now and again. (Blue Moon, Shock Top, Wild Blue, and Micelob has that organic one..I can't remember their name.)

Do you enjoy any good local Micro Brews?

I'm not a beer connoisseur but I like to try small micro brew specialty beers if I spot them. I'm all for trying something new & different. Sometimes you find a little gem once in a while.

You've got more than I do.

You're best I believe is Sweetwater IPA. Nice. The SW 420 IPA is great too.

Terrapin I believe is brewed in Athens. They make a great Rye Pale Ale. Plus, the amount of brew pubs in and around Atlanta is ridiculous.

Whereas we only have two or three true Micro Brewers in the state (Dunedin, Cigar City, and one more I just heard about.), they are tiny, have zero distribution, and hard to find. We have one brew pub in Tampa. Period.
Hence...I make my own.

The other side of your question is yes. I do drink micro-brews. All the time. Every Friday, I have a circuit I hit, starting at lunch time through quittin' time, where I stop and pick up a few bottles of something I either like or want to try for that evening.

I'm pretty much a walking encyclopedia for beer. But...I don't consider myself an expert. I know more than the average Joe, but am not a beer snob.

If you were to come over to my house, and you were trepidacious about having a beer, I'd quiz you on what you like, dislike, and expect, then trot out something I think you'd be able to palate. Watch your reaction, then walk you up and down the scale in baby steps to gauge what you like or will take to. A beer sommelier if you will.

I've actually had the 420 because that's what was recommended to me and I did enjoy. If I remember it was pretty clean & smooth with no aftertaste, which I like.

Funny what tastes good to one person is depised by another. A few years ago we went to the Biltmore House in Asheville and did the winery tour and taste testing. Everything that I liked my friend hated and vise virsa. He liked the harsher, bolder, darker stuff and I was just the opposite. One wine I almost spit out because it was so "woody" tasting and that's the one he liked the best. Tasted like a 2x4 with a hint of pooh to me. To each his own. There's so many choices today it's at least fun to experiment.

Good beer doesn't need to be served ice cold.

But most Americans have never tasted GOOD beer...

I just tried Buster's Fraoch Heather Ale, It tasted great and what an incredible history! I just bought some Guinness 250th anniversary Stout, and it was so smooth that I think this is what they will serve in Heaven. I love any beer from Scotland, England or Ireland.

Nope..not at all.

And if you want to use the "It's five o'clock somewhere rule." I believe it'd be Happy Hour in the Azores.

Yup, Jimmy made it ok to drink whenever you want!

SW 420, I finally tried it after it got really popular here in Charlotte. 2 pints, I wasnt disappointed but it wasnt like I HAVE to have this again either.

Red Oak (Greensboro, NC) and Leinenkugel varieties are pretty good too.

Out here in California I can pick up a bottle or two at our local BevMo (Beverages and more - also available online at http://www.bevmo.com ) store, along with Skull Splitter, and several other great libations.

#1 Coney Island Brewing - Blockhead
#2 Ale Asylum - Hopalicious
#3 Lakefront Brewery - East Side Dark
#4 Furthermore Brewing - Fatty Boombalatty
#5 Flying Dog Brewing - Gonzo Imperial Porter

I'm a huge huge beer drinker, and that list was extremely difficult to compile, but I'm very happy with it. Honorable mentiones include most anything by rogue brewing, and Sam Adams, and althought I've never tried it... there is a beer out there called Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout only sold once a year by Three Floyds Brewing in Indiana. Everything I hear about that beer sounds incredible. I have yet to get my hands on some. This is what I'm referring to

I'll give you that, but microbreweries are poppin up all over these day in the states, and some of these breweries are producing some phenominal beers.

I will say this though... my beer does have to be cold.
