Distributorship squabbles...

See also, "Smokey and the Bandit". About the only way we get it this side of the Mississippi.

I'm super simple when it comes to beer. Never been a big beer drinker. I'll take a bourbon & coke over beer 99% of the time. Every once in a while an ice cold beer does sound good. Since I'm health conscious I always have a light beer. I can't stand the feeling of drinking a couple heavy beers, I feel like a fat bastard. Thankfully light beers have come a long way in the last 10yrs. There really good tasting now.

1. Miller Lite
2. Coors Light
3. Bud Select
4. Sam Adams Light
5. Bass Ale (my one regular beer I drink)

I feel your pain on that one, but unfortunatly.... I haven't been able to shake the real beer kick. lol

Sam Adams light and Bud Light are pretty good though. I can't do Coors though because it like 9 kegs of it for me to get a buzz. lol

Well I've been in a mood lately to try different things, so I bought a 6 pack of Abita Golden, Abita Amber, and Abita Strawberry Harvest. The last one I was expecting to be nasty, but they were all pretty good, and the Amber was actually really good.

I don't care any more 'coz I AM a fat bastard!

Anyway I don't have a favourite as such as I like different beer as the mood takes me - I am more of a red wine wine fan anyway. So, in no particular order.

Thwaites Draught Bitter (Brown beer) - Room temperature
John Smith's smoothflow (Brown beer) - Room temperature
Tennent's Velvet (Brown beer) - Room temperature
Fraoch Heather Ale (Brownish beer) - Cool
Any Czech beer (Yellow beer) - Nice and Cold

Slightly different view from outside US.

1. Asahi (Japan)
2. Pure Blonde (Australian)
3. Barefoot (Australian)
4. San Miguel (Phillipines)
5. Crown Lager (Australian)

LOL.

Why do Euro's like their beer at room temperature? I heard that from some of my friends that have visited over there. Americans are obsessed with ICE COLD beer, including me. All the beer commercials over here talk about Ice Cold, Ice Brewed, Ice cold Rocky Mountains, beer labels that turn colors to let you know it's cold enough to drink. Funny huh?

Because the beer that's been marketed to us as being "fit to drink" only tastes good ice cold.

A good Brown that Buster listed will have it's flavors, odors, and nuances enhanced by warmer temps. Whereas, Budweiser made with cheap 6 row Pale Malt, cheap Corn adjuncts, cheap rice adjuncts, and god knows what else has no real "character" so to speak. It's just made for one thing. Mass consumption on a Saturday. Due to marketing, and mass belief, we've all placed a premium on dipping our hand into a tub or cooler full of water and ice, pulling out a water bead encrusted tall boy. Popping the top. And taking a long satisfying drink of a "frosty beverage".

Granted. Nothing in the world compares to the taste of a Bud pulled from a picnic cooler in the state mentioned above, opened, and slugged down until you either finish the bottle or can't drink anymore at that moment. But that moment and taste rapidly goes away as that beer warms.

Be aware, that a Budweiser is modeled after the "Bohemian Pilsner" style, and if you were to drink one of those, you may dismiss it as "skunk piss" or (insert any derogatory adjective here). If you don't dismiss it, and do like it, you certainly wouldn't put it in the same category as a Budweiser. Budweiser or or the what I call "light" American beers (not to be confused with their "Lite" variations), should have their own class and style. Since they are close in appearance to what they mimic, they are no where near close in taste to what they mimic.

A good readily available style of "Bohemian Pilsner" for you to try would be Pilsner Urquell. Though I've never found it, the true Bud, Budweiser Budvar, brewed in the Czech republic, supposedly the same recipe from where our Budweiser was taken from, by different accounts, tastes world's apart from American Bud.

Simple.... If it is a brown beer it needs to be at room temp(ish) to get the max flavour. Yellow beer needs to be chilled.

Bit like red/white wine.

Mind you a lot of yellow beer is totally tasteless and so is served cold to give it a redeeming feature... Take Tennents Lager - yeuch! It tasted so bad they had to put pictures of semi naked birds on the tin. It also had to be damned near freezin' to make it palatable.

[Edit: 'Kinell Tim that was quick..... not to mention succinct!]

@ Buster...

You always make cracks at Stella drinkers over there....

What's the inside joke...

FWIW...I despise Stella.
