DALLAS, Texas -- Firefighters were on an unusual rescue mission Friday morning in northwest Dallas.

They were called to an industrial area near John Carpenter Freeway and Regal Row where a man was badly injured and trapped atop a utility pole.

The man was not a utility worker and had no legitimate reason for being on the pole.

People driving by the area called 911 and said they had seen an explosion and then heard a man calling for help, according to police.

The voltage at the pole was 7,000 volts, according to Oncor spokeswoman Carol Peters.

Police suspect the man was trying to steal copper when he was shocked.

FOX 4's Chip Waggoner reported that the the man was badly burned. Chip said his shirt was in tatters and his jeans were burned away from his body.

The man appeared to be in pain as he stood between two transformers which had been electrified until Oncor crews cut the power to the pole.

Rescuers gently removed the man from the top of the pole and lowered him to the ground on a ladder. He was treated by paramedics and transported to Parkland Hospital's burn unit.

Police said they would charge the man with felony criminal mischief because the damage he allegedly caused exceeded $10,000.
What it doesn't tell you is that not only had he burned his clothes off he also had burns on over 50% of his body.

Moron.
