Now, isn't that a complete 180 from the article you first posted? WTF?

Furthermore, I agree.

dang nabit clint.. now that i've actually met you i can't just pin you as being an arrogant bastid who goes around just trying to piss everyone off..

Mike.. have you ever actually posted about motorcycles? These political threads are getting tiresome. There are probably forums for you to discuss these matters, but this should not be one of them. Weren't you banned a little while back for this same crap?

FWIW, I take public transportation to work (most days). Today I'll ride the motorcycle because I have to get to places where I can get in 20 minutes on the bike and need up to an hour with public transport.

As I paid US$ 8.40 per gallon to fill my car last night (I dropped $117 into the tank - 14 gallons), the $67 per month I pay for a regional rail ticket is money well spent. I avoid the bottleneck leaving the Autobahn in the morning, and the other bottleneck entering the valley on the way home. I get home in about the same amount of time either way, and am much more relaxed when I take the train. Plus I get to watch people - a fun passtime.

Yes I have posted about motorcycles, not in the Off Topic forum but in the Bike Talk forum where it belongs. This is not a political thread. Why do you call it political? It's about energy and nothing else. I wasn't banned for this same crap, research it and you'll find the real cause for why I was banned for one week.

You made the same argument back then, too. This is 100% political. There's really no other way to describe it.

I drive a Honda Civic DX to work, 5 days per week for a total of 535 miles. I get 42 + MPG.....

How many dinosaurs would it take to make the COAL or oil reserves we currently have? 138 billion? that's if each dinosaur turned itself into 6 barrels of oil.

Think about that idiot theory?....WHy didn't they decompose? Why did all the animals and plant life die in certain areas ??

I still believe the oil is a natural by-product from the earth's core, as it perks up thru the rock it picks up organic matter.

I also read that the Middle East has more oil reserves now than it did 20 years ago? WTF.......

Anyway.....Solar Power would be a good path to develop further, as would wind.

As far as Nuclear....I think that would be a big mistake, unless they can figure out a way to make the spent fuel rods enert.......

The entire human race has evolved on oil or oil based products..it's not going to change in the next 50 to 100 years...

Gotta drill now...in our own backyard.....

dan

In all honesty mike its not worth my effort or time, nor do i really care why you got banned if you say it wasn't for a similar reason. ANWAR has always been about politics, and until it gets drilled and it becomes a cluster%%%%, it will be about politics.

Any science behind that, or is it a matter of faith? I ask because I haven't looked into it before. I suspect that your theory is a bit oversimplified, though. By "organic material", scientists don't mean "dinosaurs", but a collection of all local life, from animals to plants to bacteria and oceanic microbes, settled out of oceans over millions of years. It's not hard to picture that much material over such a timespan.

The Earth's core is mostly iron. Carbon-based compounds do not spontaneously flow from a molten metal puddle.

I just heard a conversation with an expert in oil on MPR. He said that Iraq and the surrounding nations have vast infrastructure in place just waiting to handle the immense reserves of the area, and as soon as investors can mobilize, several million barrels a day can be flowing within months. I'm not promoting anything, but that's what's likely to happen eventually, IMO. Prices may come down, as may the sense of urgency for developing substitute energy sources. Such is human nature.

Now THAT is something most of us can agree upon. (Somewhat different than the original post, though).

I wonder WHICH men it is that are doing that?
No, no, forget I said that.

considering we need 'oil' for our hobby and this is the off-topic thread, I think this is an appropriate subject!!!

Oil Independence! Think about it. reliable alternative energy is still years off. We need fuel NOW! I'm reminded of the saying, 'a rabbit in your hand is worth 2 in the bush.' Anwar, the Gulf of Mexico, and other places are in hand. we know where they are and what it will take to get the oil. Who knows when the next battery breakthrough will come or how much the next generation of solar panel will cost? So what if the price of oil doesnt come down. Atleast we'll be paying ourselves instead of terrorist states trying to make a buck at our expense.

In a crisis like we are in now, everything should be done to save ourselves. Lets not even get into the people against nuclear power, the ultimate alternative energy. We, as a nation, have done this to ourselves. These problems seem like the conservative diatribe because we've been preaching to the chior for so many years. Well now that people are suffering, maybe something will get done.

Thanks. We sure think so.

Shon, I guess our definitions of "crisis" and "suffering" differ. I'd call it more like "paying for our prior gluttony". I'd remind everyone that the bulk of our oil currently comes from Canada and Mexico.

what I love is when the windmills were proposed, everybody who lived there was against it.

noise or something was their complaint.

because we can't use the real complaint, greed. The people who own the land the windmills are on are doing quite well. The people who don't and live next door, well, let's just say they don't get anything.

Yes, windmill opposers are funny. "They're loud, the efficiency isn't very good, blah, blah, blah. Oh, you want to put them on my land and pay me? Ok, I guess that'll do."
