One of my former girlfriends came from a US Army family (her father was a Colonel). They were a good Irish Catholic family (she was the 11th of 11 children). Her brothers and sisters could drink anyone under the table...!

somewhere along the line they realized people could drink a lot more if their beer didn't have any flavor.

Myself, actually had a porter from a microbrew at the U.S.'s largest energy fair.

Over here, they think that the ales, stouts, and real lagers aren't like "normal beer".
