Default Surgery tomorrow

On this weeks episode of "How It's Done...", we'll take a look at the surgery Diamond Jim is having on Thursday.

He's got a likely benign tumor in his right parotid gland. (Diamond Jim, in his best Arnold voice, tells his wife, "Iz naht uh tooma").

They will cut him like this:

And remove something like this:

He will be out of the hospital Friday night or Saturday morning.

Join us for next week's episode of "How It's Done... " as we look at adjusting the valves on one of the coolest bikes around, the Suzuki M50.

Mine was on the left side. Hope you come out as good as I did. My left ear is still somewhat numb after a year. Don't think it will get much better but of the nerves that CAN be damaged, that is probably the least bothersome.

Worst part for me was post-op and that damn catheter; it was more uncomfortable than the actual surgery site.

Had a REAL cute nurse to remove it the next day but after a few drugs and not sleeping most of the night, I didn't really care who (or what) got it out!

Good luck!

General Tao's Parotid Tumors? Geoff and Rowdy, you two are some twisted bast*rds.

Easy, good to hear. The doc told me about ear numbness being the most common problem. He said for the first few weeks I'll need to be careful shaving . He said I shouldn't just whip the 'ol razor over there and start hackin' away.

Working at a hospital myself, I tend to eat more Chinese food than I used to. That's because Chinese restaurants always seem to have much lower prices and more "specials" when they located near surgery centers and large hospitals. I guess they value the service of those of us in the medical fields and return the favor with bargain prices.

And each of the families that own those 3 restaurants have at least one family member that works for the hospital.

Good luck with the surgery, Jim. I'll make sure to think about you when I'm having Chinese for lunch today.
