Unhappy Another Fallen Hero

Well it's been a long week, I have travelled half way across Afghanistan and back again. And not for good reason either.

So, today being Memorial Day, I stop to remember a good friend and fallen soldier.

On Tuesday, 20 May2008, a friend and a damn good soldier was killed in Ghazni, Afghanistan. First Lieutenant Jeffrey Deprimo was killed when his vehicle ran over an IED. LT Deprimo was a great guy and a good leader. He was the platoon leader for a security platoon in the company I am First Sergeant for.

LT Deprimo was the kind of guy that always surprised. He had integrity, courage, and a great strength of character. He excelled at everything he did. A successful musician, he attended Marywood College on a scholarship and graduated Cum Laude Music Performance Graduate. He was Distinguished Military Graduate for Officer Candidate School and was in the top 5% of his class at Officer Leader Course.

He started his military career in the military late. He joined the PA Army National Guard in 2003 at the age of 31 and received his commission to Lieutenant in 2005. Never was anyone more proud to do what he did. He was proud of being here and what he did. No one could have stopped him from coming on this mission.

Also killed in the blast were Navy LT Jeffrey Ammon and their interpreter, Jon. Injured was the gunner who received burns to his legs and arm. He is expected to recover with some effort. The driver walked away with only a small burn to his face.

God Speed to all. Below are two pictures, one from the memorial and a recent photo from a little over a week ago. LT could always be seen playing with the children wherever he went on mission.

Goodbye, Jeff. You will be missed.
