Default Please, tell me that this is scripted ...

Budapest is the capitol of which European Country?

L'Europe est un pays (SFW, in English, don't worry)

"I thought that Europe is a country!"

"I was going to say France, but France isn't a country, is it?"

"I've heard of Turkey, but Hungary? I never heard about that!"

We were visiting our son a few weeks ago before he left for a second trip to the Arabian Gulf - he's stationed in San Diego. Anyway, we needed a pass so we could get onto the various Navy facilities while we were there so we went to the office where they are handled on North Island. The girl ahead of us in line was from Alaska (can you guess what's coming here?) and she hands over her driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance as required. The guy behind the counter (an E-4) takes it all, looks it over, then sits down and continues examining all the paperwork. Finally, after about a minute or two of looking at the papers, shaking his head, and smiling, he looks up at the girl and says:

"Tell me if I'm wrong, but is Alaska part of the United States?"

Well, she is Blond.

Or it could be because that some people out there in the nation don't have maps and I believe that the education such as South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, our education over here should help South Africa and should the Iraq and Asian countries so we would be able to help build up our future for us.

Just listening to her prattle on makes me want to drink... so I'd have an excuse for strangling her.

Another of my fiancée's pet peeves:

In German, it's "der Rhein". In English, everyone says "the Rhein River". When someone says "der Rhein", you KNOW they are talking about a river, so it's not necessary to say it: It's just "the Rhine", not "the Rhine river".

It's "the Colombia", "the Delaware", "the Snake", "the Colorado". Leave away the "River" - you're just wasting valuable oxygen!

I was equally bemused by the quality of the english used used on the show "Budapest is the capitol of what European Country?"

Surely it should read.. "Budapest is the capitol of which European Country?"
