Yep, I've heard they use all kinds of non-food stuff to make the products in the ads look more appealing. For example, Elmer's glue as milk.

"Food designer" is a career, just like "sound designers" who work for radio stations (writing and recording "jingles" and the other sound effects used on the air).

Yes, there are all kinds of tricks used to get the perfect photo. Since the lights are hot and the photos take time to set up, the burgers are sprayed with preservatives (hair spray, etc.) to keep the lettuce looking fresh. There are toothpicks and other "accessories" used to keep it from compressing. Anything that can "run" (sauces, etc.) are replaced with thicker "look alikes". In Hollywood productions, you'll rarely see someone actually eat an ice cream - because it's usually mashed potatoes mixed with flour colored to look like ice cream.

I think TV ads for resaurants are funny, Joes Crab Shack, Red Lobster, Chili's and KFC. They make it out like its a eurphoric, orgasmic experience to eat there. How can eating a piece of chicken be so fun? Everybody smiling and laughing, I'm usually mad as hell after waiting in line for 2 hours to eat.

After seeing the pics Im sooooooooo glad i dont eat fast food, mind you i tried a Muckdonalds breakfast once after an all night session out on the beer, you could have used the egg as a crash bobbin and the bacon as shoe leather but due to the beer goggles it looked good at the time.

Some of those actuals, could successfully feature in the Turdsday Thread, as pictorial representations!!!
