Default You may get your wish.

A few members have stated on occasions that they wouldn't worry about gas prices until they went to $7.00 - $10.00 @ gallon.

From Fox news last night: This time next year gas at the pump will be $7.00 + @ gallon.

My friends buckle up and tighten the suspenders, because very hard times are coming. You think businesses are going belly up now due to fuel prices, well you ain't seen nothing yet.

Deny it all you want Clint but the facts are staring us in the face. I guess if I'd said ABC or NBC or CBS you'd believe it more. Maybe you have some info that will debunk the facts. I'd like to see that.

I didn't deny anything. I simply expressed distrust in Fox "News".

I guess I'll go find the article myself. We really need a link for discussions like this.

I don't doubt it one bit. I think diesel will be 5.00+ in a few months. People are still driving like gas is free. Sooner or later it's gonna be crash time. Life as we know it will be way different.

There was an article here in the newspaper saying too that they expect oil to hit $200 per barrel. There are two reasons for this ...

1) Oil speculation - there is no real shortage, but every time there is any kind of conflict in the world (and try to find a day in the past century where there WASN'T some kind of international conflict!), the speculators drive the price up. No one is really going to do anything about this because the oil companies and governments are getting rich on it. Higher gas prices = higher profits for the oil companies and higher sales and mineral oil tax income for the gubment.

2) The weakening US dollar. Oil prices are handled in dollars, and the value of the dollar has dropped by more than 25% in the past year. Where the US$ used to be about 1.25 to the CHF, today it was 1.04 CHF and dropping. Just a couple of weeks ago, the Swiss Franc was even stronger, where $1 was 0.98 CHF.

IMHO, the dollar will remain weak until at least November. After that, it will all depend upon how the US presidential elections go. If J. McCain is elected, the dollar is done. It will drop even further, and the US economy will drop into a tailspin like in the 1920s.

If Clinton is elected, it's hard to tell what the dollar will do. Obama seems to be the "great hope" from an international perspective. If he is elected, I think that the dollar will recover some ground.

Again, my opinion. I don't want to discuss it, I'm just presenting it here for your reading pleasure.

Alas, I think that is a real possibility.........and I'm not sure that anybody or anything can really stop it. Too many bad decisions and policys over too long a period of time. Way too many things similar to 1920.......and some even worse. Those who don't learn the lessons of history...........

I hope......but I fear.

It certainly seems as if all of our current and potential future leaders don't have any idea what to do about it. Suspending the gas tax won't even make a dent. Ethanol is a joke. Yet these solutions are discussed the most.

Here I sit with a 2007 diesel pickup truck in the driveway. I get sick to my stomach when I have to fill it up and have been trying to use it as little as possible.

And the roads are still packed full....everyone zipping by 15-20 MPH above the speed limit. Tractor trailers still aplenty, bringing us all that merchandise. RV's loading into the campgrounds. I wish more folks would finally reach their breaking point.

Yup ... I had a 15 cent/gallon discount coupon, and it still cost me $100 to fill the Audi yesterday. The Audi gets about 34 mpg on Diesel, and my Suzuki came in at 39 mpg with the last fill-up.

Clinton/McCain's notion to suspend the gas tax is one of the dumbest ideas ever floated by presidential hopefuls.

Today the station down the block from my house is selling the stuff at $1.36/L which is equivalent to $5.14/gal. It's been hovering around that level for the past month. And is it having an effect? You better believe it. Many people are slowing down on the highways, and sales of compact cars are up -- way up.

But is it going to make businesses go under? Nope... but it will make people think long and hard before buying that 56" flatscreen plasma.

Went fishing last week to a lake that's 2.5 hours away. It cost 463.00 in diesel and gas for the boat. Not gonna do that very often. How are motorhome sales doing? can they give them away?

How did you possibly spend that much? Even at 10 mpg it should've only cost about $150.

The fact also remains that we keep exporting the US dollar AND the current administration (and any other for that matter) ignores the fact that the 2nd largest PROVEN oil reserve in the world is our neighbor to the north. Yet we continue to buy oil from Middel Eastern and African countries. Crude oil is at a record high couppled with the fact that (as stated earlier) demand is still strong...no wonder oil companies have seen record profits every quarter since Katrina.

lol, the truck cost 180.00 in fuel. The boat was empty from winter storage, and holds 52 gallons, also burns super. I put 197.00 in it first, ran that out, then added about a 1/2 tank or so to finish the day. No it doesn't get good mileage. Although I wished I had the one Trapper posted mine looks like this.

Well, for some reason I can't get the pic to post. Did fooling w/ the threads mess something up? I never had trouble before. Funny, it is now working.
Notice the personilized registration numbers? hehe
